Netflix Pick: The Crazies

I had little interest in watching “The Crazies“. I figured it was just another “people stumble on some backwoods inbred cannibals” movie.

I was wrong. Now – this is no Academy Award winning flick – but it has a good story and good action. Tied to “survival”? Massive disease spreading across the countryside with roving psycho’s bent on killing you….sure, that fits.

Netflix Summary: When a plane crashes in a small town, a secret biological weapon is released. As the toxic substance infiltrates the local water system, some residents become gravely ill, while others descend into homicidal madness. Sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant) attempts to set things straight, but soon the military becomes involved in containing the killer virus. Breck Eisner directs this chilling remake of George A. Romero’s 1973 horror classic.

The Crazies is available as an “Instant Watch” streaming movie. I plan to pick up the DVD or Blu-Ray version as well.

  1. The lesson I have taken from many of the books and movies I have read or seen with a survival slant to them is simple – When you feel or sense something is very wrong – GET OUT – You can always go back – You may not have a second chance to get out of harms way again – Its called survival – Not be a hero or the last right guy to die – I would sooner be wrong driving out of town and having to turn round and go back – Then to be stuck with a truck full of fuel and no way to get out

    • Frank –

So true. I don’t know how many time I have watched horror movies and screamed to the screen “Get out – run away!!!”. But no – they have to go upstairs because they forgot to get their lucky rabbit foot – then “stab!!!”.

  2. I liked this one and I didn’t think it was bad. Watch Time of the Wolf, though. It’s french and felt realistic. Some scary parts in it like losing your child in the dark, joining a group of people and forced to share supplies. I’ll give you the first few minutes. Family of four escapes some catastrophe to their forest cabin only to walk in and find a freaked out family already staying there. Does not end well for the first family at all.
