From the Desk of John Rourke – September 23rd, 2014

Peanut Butter has always been one of my favorite foods and I have put back numerous jars as part of my food storage program. Since it does not have the longest shelf life I store all of mine in my freezer. I got this idea from Panhandle Rancher who suggested it.

I recently got another pair of glasses from Zenni Optical. I have ordered several from them and they are great. So much cheaper than a local source – great way to store away an extra pair or just spend less money.

I watched a couple episodes of Doomsday Preppers the other night. That show is horrible. I watched most of the first season when it came out and t was entertaining and promoted some thinking. The issue I have is the way the show obviously tries to make the preppers look wacky. Now – some of them the show doesn’t have to do much as they can look plenty wacky themselves.

The price of milk, beef, and bacon has gotten crazy. I buy on sale in quantity and freeze.

  1. You nailed it – one is race, the other in nationality. If you come here to be an American I welcome you with open arms – if not – go home.

  2. I hadn’t thought of freezing peanut butter. Our freezers are so full right now I probably couldn’t get a jar in there. I have several jars that are a bit past their prime, but I eat it anyway, although not as much as I used to before I gave up bread (yep, that was hard to do). I just eat it out of the jar now. What we have is the store brand from WM. I’m wondering if adding some peanut oil to it would ‘freshen’ it up? Anyone know?

How do you reconstitute the dried peanut butter? I haven’t tried that, or any of the freeze dried stuff that’s available so far.

    • Randy – I have eaten peanut butter several months after its expiration date with no issues. Since I have an extra fridge AND freezer stored several jars in the freezer is pretty easy. As far as powdered peanut butter – depends on the brand but normally just add water.
