From the Desk of John Rourke – October 18th, 2014

I am mostly AFK (away from keyboard) this weekend at my brothers place in Georgia. If you are not aware he lives on 42 acres out in the country. Planning on doing some shooting and testing a few things. Stay tuned.

I just ordered the book The Ebola Survival Handbook after hearing some good reviews including from frequent reader  and commenter Arlene. Should arrive next week. Hopefully the information won’t ever be needed.

Question I was recently asked: Those that take prescriptions that are necessary for life – what options are there to stock up and deal with it in case of an event which interrupts the ability to get refills?

One possibility would be to pay cash and order from other countries if the prescription is available.

Another would be to cut the dosage of the daily amount every so often so at the end of 30 days there are a couple days left. Doing this over time would create a stockpile.

Lastly – depending on the prescription and insurance it is often possible to get monthly prescriptions filled a few days early. Over the course of a year this can create a decent emergency supply.

  1. I have been on High BP and Cholesterol meds for over 10 years now. I get my meds through a mail order service of my insurance company. I get a 90 day supply at a time. The great thing is they send me a new one about two weeks before my old one runs out. So over the last ten years, I have built up a 6 month supply just by saving the unused left overs.

  2. Tex, way to go !!!
Another Ebola book that I have requested from our library is Level 4 by Dr Joe McCormick I think. He is one of the Drs who did hands on work with Ebola patients in Africa and is mentioned in The Hot Zone. Arlene
