From the Desk of John Rourke – December 4th, 2014

My favorite place to eat breakfast has been closed for the past few months due to a fire and just reopened. Can’t wait to go gets some eggs and a waffle. Best I have ever had – bar none.

Balance in Life. Something I have always struggled with as once I get interested in something I tend to go overboard with it. All you have to do is watch Doomsday Preppers to see examples where people let one thing take over their lives. Gotta be able to put things in perspective and prioritize. Family, work, church, play…..preparedness.

Watched Brad Pitt’s new movie “Fury”. Excellent and I highly recommend it when it comes out on DVD/Blu-ray.

I want night vision. It is such a huge combat multiplier, but so expensive. New MSO sponsor JRH Enterprises has me drooling.  If I am able to get a Gen 3 device I want it to be able to be mounted to an AR. A couple of good articles published within the pages of MSO on night vision are HERE and HERE.

Here are a couple of examples of the ignorance of the gun control crowd and there utter lack of understanding of firearms….and the Constitution. These are from one women’s account on Twitter:

  1. I was having a fun gun talk with a friend at work when a “gun controller type” co worker decided to interject their thoughts about how evil guns are, and how people who let others know they have guns put the neighborhood at risk from those who will come to steal them. I said, “by ‘those who would come to steal them’, do you mean the government?” She was not amused, and questioned why I wasn’t capable of having an intellectual conversation. I ask her where she lived, and if she had a ‘no guns’ allowed sign on her door or front window. She said she did have a sticker in the corner of the window of her front door. then she ask why I wanted to know where she lived. I told her that since she had no guns it might be a nice place to bring my children over to show them how a home invasion robbery works and why it is important to be able to defend my family from that kind of violence. She had a flash of fear in her eyes for just a second, but I think I got my point across. I reassured her that I have been and will always be willing to put myself in harms way to defend the innocent, and that I am no threat to her or her family. I also told her that it is ignorance to believe that criminals will give up their arms, just because she does. I showed her statistics of the increase in violent crimes when firearm bans have been put into place in the UK, Australia, and even Canada to some extent. She was dubious, but she has something to consider now. Maybe it will help her come to reality, maybe not, but either way I have done my part to help her understand the fallacies of the gun control talking points. All we can do is try to educate, but they cannot listen if their ears are not willing to hear.

By the way, my wife is getting a ‘little’ concealed something in her stocking this year, because she loves our family and wants to help keep them safe.
