Video of the Week: The fastest homemade hammock setup

YouTube is an absolutely incredible source of information on almost anything you can think of. Every week we feature a new video related to a variety of topics such as firearms, first aid, gardening, security, food storage, water filtration….and current events.

Hammocks can be a great alternative to tents for camping, bug out kits, etc. I have used a Grand Trunk Ultralight numerous times and love it. At around $20 it is a great deal. The addition of an overhead tarp can provide protection from rain. The following video demonstrates a method for setting up a hammock system quickly.

Special thank to Scott for suggesting this video.

I can’t wait to try it.

  1. I love my Grand Trunk Hammock.
I purchased the Grand Trunk Parachute double last spring. I have only used it twice, but it has convinced me to leave the tent at home. Over the hammock I run a ridge line and hang a nylon tarp for overhead and lateral protection. A quick and easy and very comfortable set up

  2. No fair… He had the instructions tattooed on his arm! (lol)
Nice looking set up. I have the Hennessy Hammock that I really like, which is inclusive of both a roof and skeeter net, but this appears to be slightly easier to set up, not that the HH is hard, this just appears to be a little easier.
If you’re in a stealth or combat patrol situation, you want your hammock close to the ground (<12 ")so if you have to 'roll' out, you don't fall as far… just sayin'

  3. Enjoyed lunch today, if you viewed the other video Scott also included, it was a fast setup for the Hennessey hammock. I stopped by REI on the way home, purchased two caribiners and 4 repelling rings, after I got the setup rigged up to my tree hugging straps. I had the hammock setup with rainfly, staked out in exactly 4 mins. @ Roberto, search for more videos from this guy, he has one about the setup I have incorporated into my HH.
