Why prepare?
Why prepare?
A pretty simple question – and for me the answer is simple: It is just common sense to be ready in case something “bad” happens.
People have car insurance, life insurance, boat insurance, homeowners insurance. People buy extended warranties “just in case” something happens to that new big screen television or new computer. Some people even take out insurance on their pets.
Mention buying extra food, flashlights, and maybe a generator – and some people often look at you like your crazy.
Dangers:
The world is a dangerous place. If you are visiting this blog – you probably already know that things are not getting better. Between natural disasters and man-made situations – threats continue to exist. Will you experience some type of disaster? Who knows. All you have to do is think back over the last few years and realize that there have been numerous hurricanes, tornado’s, volcanoes, mass unemployment, etc. ‘Stuff happens……it’s best to be ready.
Let’s look at some specific dangers:
- Natural Disaster: From severe winter storms, long-term droughts, flooding, storm systems such as tornado’s and hurricanes – all the way to Super Volcano’s such as Yellow Stone – Mother Nature can stick it you whenever she feels like it. Natural disasters are likely to provide you with a short-term TSHTF scenario.
- Economic Collapse: There are many economists that believe that our economy is on it’s way down. How far? Theory’s are many. Although the mainstream news continues to broadcast that we are in a ”slow recovery” – it appears to me to be a pause in the decline – not a recovery. From a double dip recession to total economic collapse – many “experts” such as Gerald Celente say the worse is yet to come.
- Terrorism: To me – it is just a matter of time before terrorist are finally successful again. I hope I am wrong – but my gut tells me that in the not to distant future the normally incompetent terrorist will get lucky – and when they do it will be big. My main concern is with the use of nuclear weapons or possibly an EMP attack. Smaller scale events could be catastrophic to the United States. Just imagine if their was a massive attack against bridges along the east coast – millions of tons of produce and other tangibles would become stuck in transit. Food shortages would become common. It would take weeks to finally get all traffic re-routed. Although many have become numb to the events of 9-11, the terrorist haven’t forgotten and remain steadfast in their goals – to kill you and your family. That is hardcore – and the truth.
- Crime Wave: Related to an Economic Collapse – many believe that as the economy spins downward – desperate people will turn to crime to provide for their family. With no jobs & massive inflation – being able to feed your family will become very difficult. Groups are likely to form to gain strength in numbers and then overwhelm those unprepared – and take their supplies.
- Biological/Pandemic Threat: Between naturally occurring “bugs” to genetic experiments that we can only imagine – a Pandemic situation may be one of the most dangerous. Separating yourself from others that may be infected would mean isolation and the inability to just run to the store and buy a gallon of milk. Bugging out and vacating an area may be a solution – however supplies are still needed.
- EMP Attack: A high-altitude nuclear explosion can fry electronic equipment for hundreds of miles from the initial blast radius. This could mean a return to the stone-age for those effected. A true EMP attack involving multiple detonations would paralyze the United States – and send citizens into a massive panic with an inability to find out what is going on (no TV/radio’s), no way to get anywhere (car’s electronics fried), and everyone will have a few important questions on their mind that will generate high stress:
- How will I get food?
- How will I get water?
- How will I get my medicine?
- How long will this last?
- What has happened to Aunt Betsy 150 miles away?
Compared to an EMP Attack – Katrina might look like a mild storm.
These are a few of the dangers that we face today. Of course – there are others. Alien invasion, asteroid impact, massive bee die-off, civil war, and of course everyone’s favorite………..zombie’s!!!
The botttom line is – it not not crazy or wastefull to prepare for what might happen. It is both logical and common sense. Years ago before everything became so instant – preparedness was part of everyday life. Canning was commonplace in many households. Hunting and Gardening was a method off providing food for a family – not just a hobby. Skills like that are disappearing as families become reliant on modern conveniences.
I am going to finish up this post with a video from Sootch00 – one of my favorite YouTube Channel’s.
Take care all -

It seems to me that it should be obvious that we all need to prepare. One other thing to mention is the fact that the government used to say it would take 72 hours to get help in a problem and now changed that to 96 hours before help could come – - – and that is in just a regional disaster. One in a bigger region would be long-term and catastrophic!
