Video of the Week: SURVIVING AN ACTIVE SHOOTER

votweek

YouTube is an absolutely incredible source of information on almost anything you can think of. Every week we feature a new video related to a variety of topics such as firearms, first aid, gardening, security, food storage, water filtration….and current events.

Overall I think this video is pretty good. Sent in by The Panhandle Rancher he made a few points I agree with. Here are a few thoughts……

#1. The classroom would not be so calm. Screaming/crying/panicking would be much more prevalent and widespread.

#2. Many barriers hid behind would be insufficient to stop a bullet but useful for concealment.

3. If you are going to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon/distraction – pull the pin out first(good observation PH).

4. The video is totally unrealistic as it takes place in California and high cap mags are illegal so no one could possibly have one in a school….right? OK – a little sarcastic there.

5. Would have been great if a citizen was able to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights and taken the active shooter out.

Please share your thoughts…….

  1. Where’s the stay out of “gun free” zones and send massive amounts of rounds down range at the shooter turning into a dead whack job?

  2. Wife and I call gun free zones, ‘shoot me zones.’ This month a bill that would permit university level instructors to carry on campus if possessing valid concealed carry license was narrowly defeated by the newly conservative Arkansas legislature. I can see no reason why such attendance should delete part of your constitutional prerogatives.

Some time ago, I authored a brief post regarding seeing a bag carrying male in Amarillo, Texas, thinking this man may have on the way to becoming an active shooter. The problem being in Amarillo would be becoming caught in the crossfire as citizens took proactive action.

Back when Charles Whitman was shooting from the University of Texas tower in Austin (he’s in Wikipedia for you youngsters), folks stopped their pickup trucks in the streets to shoot back. Back then we had a participatory democracy.

  3. The one problem I have is the tendency of teachers to cluster students into a target rich environment. I would rather them scatter and bomb shell, making difficult moving targets and lessening casualty numbers.

  4. The Texas Senate is now considering a bill similar to that mentioned in Arkansas and it’s out of committee. Another bill under consideration is for open carry.
