Uncommon Survival Items………
Today I thought of a couple of items that could be very useful in a survival kit – but often are not mentioned.
First – a hat. I am very sensitive to bright light. I also wear prescription glasses. So – a hat is something that I – like so many others - wear to be able to see better in bright sunlight. I certainly believe that being able to see well is very important in a survival situation. In addition to helping with the sun – hat’s can also allow you to function better in rain. I typically wear a high quality baseball cap and it does an excellent job of protecting my eyes (and glasses) from both the sun and the rain. I keep a hat in each of my bug out bags and survival kits. Of course – if you do not wear prescription glasses – sunglasses should be used as well.
Second – spare glasses/contact lenses are incredibly important if your vision requires correction. You must keep spare glasses/lenses in case something happens to your regular pair. Loosing or damaging your glasses and having no back up could be disastrous and potentially deadly. Just imagine a scenario where your home catches fire….you and your family make it out safely and now you cannot see – your glasses burnt up in the fire. Often vision warehouse stores offer inexpensive frames that you can fill with the cheapest lenses and store away……just in case.
These are just a couple of items that are not often thought of when planning survival prep’s – and there are many more.
Take care all -
Rourke
