Thank you and request for feedback……….

Hello all -

First off I want to say a very big “Thank You!” to all of you who visit here daily (or so). Thank you! I value your loyalty and comradery.

Over the past few month’s I have been making some changes here at MSO – trying  little of this and a little of that. Mostly what I have heard has been negative. Obviously that is not what I am wanting so I am asking for as many of you who are willing to leave a comment to this post and tell me a few things:

  • What do you like most about ModernSurvivalOnline.com?
  • What do you like the least?
  • What kind of content would you like to see more of?
  • What kind of content would you like to see less of?
  • Anything else – feel free to tell me.

One of the common theme’s to the complaints I have received is that I have become over commercialized. Well, this might be true. Really depends on perspective. Am I trying to make some spare change with the site? Absolutely! I am not going to lie. This is capitalism. I spend a tremendous amount of my time operating MSO – and there is nothing wrong with trying to be rewarded for hard work.  No one is forcing anyone to buy anything nor sign up for anything. Take what you like….and leave the rest.

Again – thanks ahead of time for visiting and helping out by leaving a comment.

  • What do I like most about MSO – That the content is informative and presented in an friendly but no nonsense way.

I have no issues with the commercialization of the site. I don’t think it’s over the top. Heck I’m trying to do the same thing to my site I’ve just not had any luck with it so far.

I’ve never felt like there was anything I had to click on, or was difficult to navigate around. The ads are not obtrusive to me. Furthermore most of the ads and Amazon links are for items I’m interested.

I also really like the weekly news report you have. I’ve found a lot of interesting articles through you that I other wise would not have seen.

There is nothing that stands out that I don’t like right now. I say keep up the good work. Of course you are trying to make some money off the blog I know it takes a ton of work to do this stuff. The only websites anywhere on the internet that wont have a single advertisement are the tiny ones that can’t get any sponsors like mine.

What I like the most is the ease of the site. I think that you are able to reach a wide group. For me everything is not needed but I read everything and it has help me a great deal. I am just starting out and I feel blessed to find this site.

For the least like I said if someone don’t like it just don’t read it.
I don’t have a lot of money. So where ever I can find some imformation on how it is working or not for them I look for those little nuggets.

I see nothing wrong with getting paid for what you do I sure this is a large part of your time.

I would love to see some more on prepping on a dime or somthing like that I get over whelmed with you have to have this or that. I don’t have the extra 300 dollars to buy the fancy stuff.

Thank you for all that you do it has help more that you know.

Great site. No complaints from me about being a Capitalist. I would love to see some articles about other aspects of prepping like clothes to have, prepping your home for bugging in, what to look for when looking to buy a bugout location, and storage ideas in your home for supplies.

  • My only suggestion would be to make the format a little wider (but then again, my own site is wider than this, so I might be biased that way).

Otherwise, I laud you for being a capitalist. I wish I could attract as many advertisers to my site – alas, I haven’t much time to devote to running it that it’s more hobby than anything.

    Keep up the good work!

    Howdy Rourke,
I very much enjoy your site. It is easily navigated, and the information here is timely and informative without all the excess ‘fluff’ that can be found elsewhere. The advertising is not obtrusive, but the links are there for a person to click if they so choose. I often enjoy the guest posts as well. In many cases, the guest writer is offering a new perspective or a small nugget of thought that might not otherwise occur to all of us, and it’s nice to get those out there. Thank you for all that you do. I appreciate you very much. Take care!

Your site is one of my favorites. I don’t mind the ads at all, lots of sites have them. I have my eye on a Big Berkey and am saving up for one. I’ll be using your link when I’m ready to buy. Hopefully, the ad is still there!

The articles I like the least are detailed reviews of a specific guns, accessories or knives. Even the experts argue about what is best. I have what I have and hearing yet another person’s opinion won’t change that. I usually ask people I know and respect for advice on those things.
The articles that I find most interesting and helpful are the ones that teach a specific DIY skill, such as how to make vinegar or how to make your own water filter. I also like articles that give a beginner knowledge of a subject in which I am weak, such as communications or solar energy.
I also like the weekly news links. I haven’t seen that in a while. Have you stopped doing that?

No complaints, you’re on my daily read list. Great info and the format is easy to navigate. Keep up the good work!

I think you are doing a really great job.

    The articles are very informative.

They provide lots of relevant information regarding our current situation

I would add the occasional product review as long as it is presented in a non-biased manner.

I don’t have a problem with the advertising at all. It’s off to the side and out of the way.

    Keep up the great job!

I really do enjoy your site. You offer a lot of variety in information, and sometimes spur me to looking for more information on a particular subject. I like the guest posts, too. I have learned a lot! As far as your advertising goes, it is necessary to maintain the site as you do, and I have learned about many things from clicking on the links. Besides, you are not forcing anybody to buy anything! Keep up the good work!

    Rourke,
Thanks for all the information you provide. We are rookies at this stuff and we have learned many new skills reading your site. Nothing negative to say about the vendors on this site most provide great info as well. I learned many years ago information is power.
I would like to see more articles on gardening and livestock in an urban setting. Other ideas would be power supply in a small scale, solar, wind or in our case tidal. Thanks again we enjoy your site.

    John:
We’ve already had the discussion on ads…support the site. As a frequent contributer I am also watching these comments for new posting ideas: perhaps my Aquaponics setup for the Spring or testing the solar back-up (I’d like to get some pics when I find my camera)

My only suggestion: get MAINEPREPPER into your You Tube links. He is without doubt the most knowledgable, level headed, plain spoken voice of the prepper community that I have seen. His very useful and wide ranging info is backed up by many years service in both the USMC as well as the US Army.
Thanks and keep pluggin’ Regards, D.

  • BQuad

I like the lay out and organization…makes my time on the site very efficient. I don’t like the balance of articles….too much echo chamber philosophy and not enough real instruction. Need real and practical instruction form the basics (how to clean a carburator) to the advanced (how to perform armorer weapon repairs).Assume occasionally that your audience includes folks who did not grow up on farms and did nto hunt every deer season….folks who might be educated and working white collar jobs and who are concerned about the direction of the country and world and would like to prepare and are seeking SKILLS.
Thanks for the opportunity to offer feedback!

I like Maineprepper. I will add him.

I have been prepping for less than 2 years and have explored many prepper sites. I like your site and the variety it has. I have learned much from reading all of the articles. Any site that is successful has advertising and the ability to make a profit. After all that is/was the American way. I enjoy the guest writers and have found many sites I wouldn’t have otherwise.

The only suggestion I can offer is creating a survey/questionnaire if you want more direct feedback. It is easier for most people to respond to prompts that get them thinking on the subject. Leave a good size comment space at the end.

Keep up the good work. I look forward to reading all of your articles even if they may not directly benefit me at this time. Acquiring knowledge that may be needed in the future is something all preppers can do. Your site helps to complete that aspect of prepping. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge to those of us who can benefit from it.

    Rourke:
Your site is by far one of the best around. You give daily input which is rare on most sites and I stress the word “give”. There is a world of takers out there. Your sincerity is legit and you are truly “giving” information. I’d bet none of the “haters” has downloaded any of the free .pdfs you offer! If people have a hard time with banner ads and other methods of covering overhead, forget them! Keep up the great work. Getting guest writers adds so much more perspective. Beats having stale posts by one person that “knows it all”. Nobody knows everything, but you are doing all the hard work for everyone’s benefit. Let’s hook up soon! Best, Matt
