Netflix Pick: Out of the Wild Survival Series

I have watched both Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment and Out of the Wild: Venezuela. These are a couple of very entertaining adventure series which set several strangers in the wilderness with limited resources.

The group of people have to rely on their resourcefulness to make it back to civilization alive, foraging for food, building makeshift shelters and battle harsh environments as they attempt to make it “out of the wild”.

Both of these series are available as an Instant Stream Video on Netflix.

Cheap entertainment! Check it out.

Red Dawn re-make to be released November 2nd, 2012

rd2

I loved the original Red Dawn movie. I swear I must have seen it at least 40 times and still watch it every few months or so. When I first heard a remake was in the works I was very excited. Shortly thereafter the project was shelved due to financial problems as well as pressure from China (the villains in the movie).

The movie was reworked and now North Korea are the bad guys – and the project is set to be released in November of this year. I can’t wait.

Hope it’s good.

Survival Movie: ‘Contagion’ released on DVD and Blu-Ray

Contagion, DVD, disaster, movie, pandemic, threat, TEOTWAWKI, SHTF, TSHTF, disease

The movie ‘Contagion’ was recently released on DVD and Blu-Ray. I reviewed this movie when it was originally released in theaters and I highly recommend it.

Here is a summary of the movie:

Contagion is a 2011 medical thriller disaster film directed by Steven Soderbergh. The film has an ensemble cast that includes Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kate Winslet. Contagion follows the rapid progress of a lethal indirect contact transmission virus (fomite transmission) that kills within days. As the fast-moving pandemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than does the virus itself. As the virus spreads around the world, ordinary

The Walking Dead Season 2 coming soon…..

The Walking Dead was a huge hit earlier this year with the prepper-crowd as well as many others. I can’t think of an apocalyptic event much worse than a full fledged zombie outbreak.

Zombies……..they really irritate me.

What doesn’t irritate me is the fact that on Sunday October 16th The Walking Dead Season 2 will premiere.

Here is the trailer:

Can’t wait…..

Thoughts on the movie – Contagion

Last night I went and saw the movie Contagion. It was very good.

From Wikipedia: Contagion is a 2011 American thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh. Movie review: FASTER starring Dwayne Johnson

I know this has nothing to do with survival & preparedness – but I talk about things going on in my life sometimes.

I wasted 2 hours of my life last night watching “FASTER” starring Dwayne Johnson. I usually love Dwayne Johnson movies – but for me this one was terrible. The idea behind the story was OK – but the carrying out of the story was just so weak to me.

Here is the movie trailer:

I thought watching the trailer it was going to  be great – so you can imagine

Red Dawn

I watched the old 80′s movie Red Dawn the other week – and loved it.

As a teenager I watched it when it first came out in the theater a couple of times (back when new movie tickets ran about $3.75). A few months after its initial release it started to be shown in a local $1.00 theater. I swear I must have seen it 20 times if not more. Back then the Cold War was evident – and the movie did a good job showing the threat of war (note: I did not say realistic job).

My Favorite Disaster & Apocalyptic Movies Part 2

Here is Part #2 of my favorite disaster and apocalyptic movies.  Here is Part#1.

I love watching movies – and sometimes when I need some motivation with staying in-tune with my survival & preparedness goals – I pop in one of these DVD’s, pop some popcorn – and become absorbed into the movie.

Here we go:

6. The Postman (1997) – Amazon Summary: Falling from the Oscar-winning glory of Dances with Wolvesto the opposite end of the critical and box-office scale, Kevin Costner must have been deeply humbled when this three-hour postapocalyptic tale–his sophomore effort as a director–was greeted with

Great weekend……………

Not a whole lot going on this Memorial Day weekend.

Pretty much just trying to relax and de-stress. Spending time with the family, working on my websites, and one of my favorite things……picking stuff from my garden. I pulled probally 20-25 pounds of cucumbers, zuchinni, and summer squash. Also harvasted a few potatoes from buckets. Bought a new issue of Mothers Earth News – which I thoroughly enjoy every 2 months. Put some thoughts into emergency power. The modern utilities near my home have done well through some significant winter storms. The longest power outage experienced for any reason has been
