A few random thoughts:
Bunker Billy sent in a link to a great article looking at different fuels for use in a grid down situation. Check it out here - http://www.prepperlink.com/index.php/prepare/getting-started/item/139-kerosene-bug-in
It is amazing how the White House and other Progressive politicians continue to spin “success” into the Affordable Healthcare Act (ObamaCare). Talk about putting lipstick on a pig and still having a pig.
I recently mentioned that I was looking at picking up a Ruger LC9 9mm pistol for concealed carry. I managed to check one out and pull the trigger – hate it. Trigger pull is long

Every so often I express my views regarding politics here on ModernSurvivalOnline. Almost every time I do I get a negative comment or two – as well as a few emails stating that they do not like me offering my opinion on a preparedness site. The reasoning is generally two fold:
1. First and most often is the reader has a different opinion and is on the opposite side of the political spectrum.
2. Second, some readers just do not see the relationship between politics and preparedness.
I respect everyone’s opinion but as far as #1 goes

Hello all -
Hope this finds everyone doing well. The rest of this week I am going to be somewhat “off the grid” and will be publishing a mix of new and old posts here on ModernSurvivalOnline. I will check comments and email daily – but don’t be surprised if it takes a bit to get back to you.
I want to take this opportunity to say “Thanks” to everyone that takes any amount of their valuable time and spends it here. I truly enjoy the interaction and appreciate the loyalty many have shown.
I recently asked for suggestions on

This is the time of year that I do a lot of planning. Call them New Years Resolutions or Goals and Objections – regardless I tend to get pretty detailed in looking at the next year and cover all aspects of my life including finances, family, home, health, and preparedness. ModernSurvivalOnline and my other sites are not immune to my planning and I have been doing some thinking of what I can do in 2014 to not just keep the sites going but improve them as well.
Here is where I would like to hear from all of you. What

Currently ModernSurvivalOnline is set up that each post is fully displayed on the Home Page. This allows someone to go to http://modernsurvivalonline.com and read the last 8 or so posts without going anywhere else.
There is another option….
Many websites such as this one is changing to a format whereby the title of the post along with a short excerpt is displayed….allowing the reader to decide whether or not to read the article. If they choose to read it -they just click on the title. SeasonedCitizenPrepper.com is set up in this manner.
There are two main benefits from having the

Hello all -
I just wanted to tell everyone “Thank You” for your support. Over the past several months the look of ModernSurvivalOnline has changed several times and I am pretty happy with the current one. I continue to post daily and try to provide quality content. There are many preparedness blogs out there and I appreciate everyone stopping by here and hanging out.
Beyond visiting this site – readers have supported MSOnline in many ways. The first is supporting our sponsors. When searching for preparedness supplies – please check out our sponsors and do business with them whenever

I have mentioned several times that there may be some changes taking place with the site – so just be aware if all of a sudden the site looks “different”. Well, Friday will be the day that most of the changes will be taking place. ModernSurvivalOnline will be up – but at times will look totally odd. Depending upon how it goes – it may take me into Saturday to get things straight.
Why am I changing the look of the site? Well, I had changed the “theme” or appearance back in January and have had

Please have some patience over the next couple of weeks. There may be times when things here just don’t look “quite right”. Due to some formatting problems and technical difficulties – it looks like I am going to have to change the “appearance” theme of the site again.
The last time went very smoothly and I was basically done in a day. We’ll see what happens.
Thanks – Rourke
Hello all -
First off I want to say a very big “Thank You!” to all of you who visit here daily (or so). Thank you! I value your loyalty and comradery.
Over the past few month’s I have been making some changes here at MSO – trying little of this and a little of that. Mostly what I have heard has been negative. Obviously that is not what I am wanting so I am asking for as many of you who are willing to leave a comment to this post and tell me a few things:
What do you like most about ModernSurvivalOnline.com? What do

I posted a blurb about a website/information product today and was overwhelmed with negative responses. For those that read the post and visited the site – you’ll know what I am talking about.
Absolutely the website is one big, giant ad – sure. Just like the infomercials you see on TV – the website tries to draw you in to buy their product. Ever watch a P90X 30 minute infomercial late at night or on the weekend? How many of you bought P90X afterwards? Many people have.
Now my point is the method used to attract customers varies due to so many different perspectives out there.

Just a head’s up – between December 22nd and the 31st there will be a few changes happening here. Basically I am going to attempt to change the appearance of the site to something a little more easy on the eyes and user friendly. This is no small task and depending on the exact changes made I will likely be doing significant editing and programming.
During the transition the site will remain up however things will certainly look rather odd at times. Hopefully once done everyone will like the new look.
Thanks ahead of time for your

Hello all – Just a quick note to update you on a few things going on at ModernSurvivalOnline.com. First and foremost…..thanks for your support and visiting. I have two separate mailing lists on my site which I think is far too confusing. One list is for those interested in receiving the MSOnline Newsletter. The other is to receive daily posts in their inbox. I am making a change and going to only one email list. The list I will eliminate is the one which is handled by a service called Feedburner. If you are signed up on this list you currently receive each and every daily post from MSOnline

Every so often I get emails from readers that disagree with something I have written. Not a problem….really. I absolutely have no issue with someone disagreeing and providing a different perspective on a topic. What is unacceptable is when someone comments or emails with an opinion that contains malice, anger, and flat out disrespect.
I am a man. I am an adult. I can take criticism. I do not profess to know everything and am always willing to hear someone else’s opinion. I try to be considerate and respectful. I wish more people were like that. To be honest those people

Wanted to give a quick update on a few things going on here at ModernSurvivalOnline.
Recently have taken on a few new sponsors including Solutions from Science and Prepper Press.Check ‘em out along with the rest of my sponsors. They provide a huge array of preparedness resources and products with high value.
I am targeting April 2nd to start a new project – the MSOnline Preppers Guild. The Guild is a membership “club” which those that join can help support the site as well as receive unique benefits. For those joining this membership club they will receive a few things – Access to a hidden webpage

Hello all -
Over the next several weeks you may see some “odd” things with the appearance of this site. No worries…..I am working on an upcoming project and periodically will be doing some changes.
More on the upcoming project in a few weeks.
Thanks – Rourke

I try to update this site every so often – just to freshen things up once in a while. As life continues to remain busy – finding time to do more than post articles is sometimes difficult.
Recently I made a few changes as well as some additions -
Internet Resource page – added firearm links, alternative news links and more.
Survival & Preparedness Database – Retreat Preparedness page added – video’s, etc. All of SouthernPrepper1′s YouTube video’s as of 8-20-2011 are included and downloadable - excellent information. So far – over 20 gigabytes of survival & preparedness information available – totally
