Need a gun? On a budget? Here are 3 possibilities…..

gun1

Regardless of what the government figures and mainstream media reports the economy has left many families struggling. Those on a tight budget may find themselves overwhelmed and disappointed during a trip to the gun shop. With just a few hundred dollars it is absolutely possible to secure a very capable means to defend the homestead.

Here are a few examples:

1. Stevens 350 Security Pump Action 12 gauge Shotgun – The Stevens comes equipped

Video: EoTech & AR15 Carbine POV Shooting

lr.eotech-552-512r

I realize this will not be the most exciting video ever watched but for those that do not understand the benefit of a holographic optic it is very telling.

I waited a long time before spending the money on a high-dollar EoTech 552 and have never looked back. For close-to-medium ranges it is phenomenal. It offers super fast target acquisition and super rugged. There are other similar optics out there some costing more –

Rourke’s AR Pistol Build – “Venom”

null

AR pistols are all the rage today and for good reason. They offer much of the size and maneuverability of an SBR(short barrel rifle) without the cost and time involved in a NFA tax stamp. “NFA tax stamp?” You see the government in all its infinite wisdom decided long ago that owning a rifle with a barrel length less than 16″ is just not something the American people should be allowed to do. If

Part 1: AR Budget Build – Complete and functional for under $500

temp_regrann_1430272380099

Rourke: This post was originally published HERE on ModernSurvivalOnline.com. You could call this an “assembly” more than a build. Regardless – the gun continues to shoot great today. There will be a Part II.

My first of several AR build articles focuses building a complete, functioning AR-15 for less than $500. Yes, it is possible and I am going to show you how.

Let me start off by saying this is not difficult. It’s

Review: Canik TP9SA 9mm Semi-Auto Pistol

Canik-TP9SA-Pistol-Review-150x150

Colt. Springfield. Glock. Smith & Wesson. H&K. Ruger. All these brands are well respected and have been putting out high quality firearms for years. For most the mention of any of those brands and it is easy to think of at least a half dozen quality models offered.

Canik? Not so much.

Canik is relatively new to the pistol market and word of its incredible performance and low price

Don’t own a gun? No better time than now!

guns ammunition revolver 1800x1096 wallpaper_www.wallpaperfo.com_59

Seems like there are more and more terrible events happening where some mentally-unstable person takes the lives of innocent citizens via a mass shooting. When it happens it makes national news and the anti-gun movement gets a huge boost of both money, and public support. I do see gun control measures increasing substantially within the next several years. A few more headlines of people getting killed by “evil guns” and gun control measures will be

On the .300 BLACKOUT……perhaps the perfect battle rifle

300 AAC Blackout1

Rourke: This post was originally published HERE on ModernSUrvivalOnline.com

I missed the punch and reach of my 7.62 M-14 from the very first day that I had to trade it in for an M-16. I received an early M-16 in Vietnam and it was plagued with all of the horror stories you have heard. My main complaint was after running about 100 rounds through it; carbon blew back, fell into the lower

Commentary – Why I zero my AR at 50 yards…….

carbon2

Rourke: This “Blast from the Past” was originally published HERE in ModernSurvivalOnline.com.

First off – my eye’s are not what they used to be. 100 yards with a non-magnified optic looks pretty far. 200 yards with a non-magnified optic or open sights is extremely far especially considering target identification. Anyways – back to why I zero my AR at 50 yards.

The M193 55 grain 5.56mm round – and similar loads – are very

Every Day Carry, revisited.

Might I have erred by considering the military looking bag carrying male a threat? At least one reader thinks so. We have created a dangerous modern society and I submit there are more assaults, robberies, burglaries, and homicides

A few thoughts on gun control…..

gun-rights

Gun control is certainly on the lips of many today due to recent news headlines and gun control is one issue that I certainly have opinions on.

Top online criminal justice programs, police academies, and everything in between all teach that as guns are harder to legally buy so increases the illicit market and use of other weapons. This truth is often ignored by news media and groups critical of gun use, especially in the

Review: Magpul MOE Grip for AR Platform

magpul-grip

This post was published HERE previously on MSO…..

To be honest I often scoffed at the idea of spending my hard earned money on an aftermarket grip for my AR. I mean – it’s a just a grip, right? The standard AR grip has been around for decades and should be just fine. Well – several months ago I happen to have a few extra bills padding my wallet(rare occurrence) and was down in Columbia,

Gun control initiative coming?

256px-No_guns.svg_

Yes – President Obama continues to be THE best gun salesman in the history of the planet. It is being reported that the Justice Department is looking to change the definition of “pistol” in the coming months. I am not alone in thinking that they may target AR and AK pistols – or at least the “braces” which are currently in fashion.

Nothing would surprise me however I have to admit that as far as

There are many people that are just now looking into “survival”. Many of these new “preppers” have become interested due to severe economic situations in this country as well as uncertainty throughout the World. Many people are having their eye’s opened due to the reality of the situation.

Now, I am not going to get into all the in’s and out’sof the economic situation – I will however express my opinion that it is SEVERE

3 Easy Tips to Improve Your Handgun Accuracy

gunpoint-308107__180

The ability to fire a handgun accurately is crucial to survival, not only yours, but that of innocent bystanders. Since many individuals opt to carry handguns for the purposes of self-defense, accuracy is also important in achieving that end. You may want to use lethal force in certain circumstances, but it isn’t always called for. In those situations, taking any life should not be an accident. While you want to protect yourself, disarming

I am pleased to announce that Classic Firearms out of Monroe, NC is now an official sponsor of ModernSurvivalOnline.com. I became familiar with Classic Firearms after ordering a Bear Creek Arsenal upper to complete an AR build. Their customer service was excellent and the upper arrived with no issues.

Just recently I placed another order getting a Canik TP9 SA 9mm pistol. I talked on the phone with Janet who coordinated the firearms transfer to

So many guns, not enough money. A couple weeks ago I had the chance to borrow a friends Kel-Tec Sub-2000 9mm Carbine. I have been interested in owning one of these for the past few years but it just never happened.

Review: Solvent Trap Adapter from Infinite Product Solutions

DSCN0105

Ever hear of a “solvent trap adapter”? If not you have now. Amazing what people come out with nowadays. A solvent trap adapter is a small tool which attaches to the end of a firearm and allows an oil filter or similarly threaded objects to be attached.

The intended purpose of a solvent trap adapter is to attach an oil filter to the end of a barrel to make cleaning the firearm easier. Simply attach

I never hear anything about the Ruger Mini-14 anymore…..

Ruger-Mini-14

I had an original Mini-14 back in the 90’s and thought it was great. The only magazine I used that worked well was the Ramline polymer magazine designed to function in the Mini-14, AR-15, and AR-180. Wish I had never sold that gun. The Mini-14 has since been redesigned and has been improved but yet still rarely do I see it referenced when defensive or SHTF-guns are discussed.

I would suppose changing marketing conditions are

FIREARMS WEEK: Ammunition availability and prices

ammo-supply

Ammunition availability and prices are as close to “back to normal” as I have seen in a long while – at least here in South Carolina. Local gun shop up the road from me this past weekend had ton’s of inventory of .22LR and no limit. Academy Sports also had quite a bit of off brand 22’s but still on the expensive side(10 cents a round). Even online ammunition retailer Luckygunner.com has a substantial selection
