SurvivalBlog.com is probably the most popular “portal” or visited survival & preparedness site on the Internet. If you scan across many forum’s and blog’s  – James Wesley Rawles and his SurvivalBlog.com is often a discussed and controversial subject.

Why?   Well – from what I have read many feel that Rawles’s site is geared toward those that are wealthy and can dedicate large funding towards elaborate survival & preparedness systems. I have spent many hours at SurvivalBlog searching through its archives – there is a ton of excellent information there.

My opinion on SurvivalBlog?

I respect Rawles and what he has accomplished and what he provides. SurvivalBlog is a resource really like no other. There are thousands of articles related to a huge diverse subject-matter. I think the criticism on SurvivalBlog’s “elite survivalist” promotion is somewhat unjustified. Rawles and many of his readers take survival & preparedness VERYseriously as they dedicate themselves to the pursuit of extreme preparedness – at least in the eyes of some. That dedication includes forgoing PLASMA televisions and other common materialistic items in an effort to fund their survival systems. How could I criticize someones decision to do what they feel is in the best interest of them and their families? I haven’t and I won’t.

Do I agree with every single thing in Rawles’s books and on his website? No I do not. However there is a lot to gain from his vast information sources- and it grows daily. I highly recommend that you set aside some time and take a look around SurvivalBlog.com – there is some very valuable information their.

But how do I get past my aversion to that stupid comma in his name?

Seriously, there are so many excellent sites that I check daily (yours is one) that I don’t feel shorted by not reading Rawles.

    That’s funny Jen……!!

I read Patriots about 12 years ago… I don’t remember it being a very accurate prediction of
what is going on now with the economy. Has anyone read it recently? Is it accurate?

You should read the newest version. I have read both – and they are very similiar. The old version was similiar as far as the economic downturn of today. The book had a rapid collapse. It will take time to see how close we get to the book.

mr rawles gets paid for his survivalism consulting/advice. his stuff better be recognizably good to his clientele, or he has no business.

there’s so much material on his site every day, i’m usually only able to skim the headlines. i usually end up only reading his “quote of the day”.

Yea – there is just so much.

Every so often I will spend a couple hours reviewing what I may have missed – and will print out stuff I am wanting to read.
