Stress in your life……..

Today was a very active day for the Rourke family.

This morning we all had to get a lot of stuff ready for my 6 year old’s birthday party turning 7). Ton’s of friends coming over as well as some family. Had to run errands getting ice cream and such. Also had to do the normal stuff – like tend to the garden. Most everything was wilting so they needed a drink of water. I am pulling cucumbers and summer squash daily – in quantities too large to consume daily.

After the party which lasted until about 4:00pm, we had a cook out at a neighbors at 5:00pm. Ton’s of people showed up. Good drink, good friends, good fun. Just left there a little while ago – almost midnight.

While sitting down there outside in the dark – watching the kids play and seeing conversations going on around me – it made me think.  I gotta relax more.

Alot of people nowadays have a lot of stress. Between jobs, families, and money stress can be a very unpleasant and unhealthy. Just sitting back and relaxing is something that for many, including me – just doesn’t happen enough.

Over the past year or so I have found several ways to relax and just chill out.

First, I like watching movies. Sitting back with some popcorn at a theatre or at home – it is my main way to escape. Watching a good action flick, sci-fi, or mystery is a great way to forget about the troubles at my job or the worrying trying to figure out where to get the money to fix my truck. Hey – watching 2 movies in a row is even better.

Second- having a cookout. Summertime, hamburgers, good conversations and a laugh or twelve is one of my favorite things to do.  The only part I do not like about big cookouts is they eventauly have to end.

Those are the main ways I destress. I have been thinking of buying an older used pontoon boat to put on a local lake. I think we would really enjoy that. I would imagine on Saturday’s putting the boat in, going out to a selected area and anchoring. Doing some fishing as well as cooking out on the lake – perfect!

What does this have to do with survival and preparedness? Maybe nothing – maybe everything. We all need to survive the day to day struggles of life. I certainly do not want to prepare for an EMP attack or an economic coollapse and end up having a heart attack at 45 years old.  I think keeping stress to a minimum is very important so our minds are clear to focus on whatever is at hand. I haven’t been doing a good enough job and plan to do better.

Going to the YMCA tomorrow where there is a huge water park with my kids. Hopefully this will decrease my stress….though you never know with my kids:)

Take care all -

Rourke

Make a date with yourself before dawn. Go outside. Sit. Listen to the birds. They are singing. It’s a brand new day. The birds are there in the moment. Sit. Listen to the birds.

    Trust me on this one….
