I would like this as an aid to teach my children, and my kids, kids. Somewhere I would hope the knowledge passed saves a life. You never know, it may spread to save many lives.

I could use the book, “Bug Out” and all the information in it. I’m a 65YO retired grandmother, living off a small SS check each month. Altho’ I’m in pretty good physical condition, I’m a 5’2″ small-framed woman, and I’m fully attuned to my capabilities and limitations–much different from say a 21YO male in peak physical condition. When I was younger, I did some backpacking with the Sierra Club. Packing all the essentials wasn’t too difficult when backpacking on flat land and doing short trips, but it was difficult backpacking elevations of longer duration, say in the mountains of New Mexico. Before I “bug out” on foot, I’ll have to be convinced there’s no other option since I know how difficult it’d be for me. I’m still working on getting my bug-out bag together. I have some of the needed items–backpacking stove/fuel bottle, Buck 110 folding knife, Winchester Multi-Tool with tool kit, compass, Berkey water bottle filter, butane lighter/magnesium fire starter/waxed matches, paracord, fishing kit, etc.; I’m still working on getting other needed items–Bear Pepper Spray, another good sleeping bag, a well-made tent, and numerous other items. My prepping started less than six months ago when I somehow ended up at grandpappy.info where I then clicked on a link to survivalblog. My eyes were opened, and I couldn’t believe how I’d missed the importance of preparing for all the possible dangers that could occur. I’m now an avid prepper, and I’m prepping as fast as I can on a limited income. So far, I’ve managed to get several months’ water stored, plus I’ve set up a good Berkey home-made water filter (made it myself from seeing a video online). I’ve stocked at least six months’ worth of food, and I’m currently working on stocking at least a year’s supply. I’ve also accumulated a lot of miscellaneous needed items, including weapons. My arsenal currently consists of a .38 Airweight S&W revolver, a single-shot 20 gauge, and a .22LR rifle, plus limited ammo. (Yes, I know how to shoot and take care of my weapons–have a cleaning kit, oil, etc.) At some point, I plan to replace the single-shot 20 gauge with a pump shotgun. I have a lot of skills. Along with the normal female skills, such as cooking, sewing, etc., I also know how to use automotive tools (have my own set of tools/toolbox and can do simple maintenance/repairs, such as filter changes, oil changes, wiper blade replacement, etc.); I can also use hand tools (have my own B&D drill, a circular saw, a jigsaw, etc.) I had a large garden year before last; worked the clay-like soil with various additives, plus had someone till it for me. (I didn’t, and still don’t, own my own till, but it’s on my list.) I got a few vegetables from the garden, but the hot temps of Texas pretty much killed a lot of things before they could even produce. It was a good learning experience. Next time, I’ll know to start the seeds indoors before planting them in the ground; that way they’ll have a chance to grow and produce BEFORE the hot temps arrive. I currently live in a rural area in Texas; however, it’s not rural enough–too many houses/people around–so I’m looking for a different place that can be my home and retreat–not just for myself, but also for my son and his family who live in Houston. (Like many who have family members not aware/convinced of the dangers ahead, I try to plan for them, too!) Since I’ve had to deal with many different situations during my lifetime, I have the capability to adapt to various environments. There are still many things I don’t know and don’t know how to do. However, I strive to continue learning by reading and doing. I’ve been a regular visitor to modernsurvival since its inception (learned about it from survivalblog). If I win “Bug Out,” it will be a good addition to my survival supplies as I have no doubt it’ll help me in my endeavor to prepare better for every possible scenario.

As a disabled Veteran and wheelchair dependent, I will probably hunker down at home. Although, I have sought to find a suitable bug-out location with use of a mid-sized RV.
