Review: THRIVE Freeze Dried Strawberry’s
I recently had the opportunity to try some THRIVE freeze dried strawberries from Shelf Reliance.
I was very excited to try the strawberry’s out when I received them. The cans come sealed with a pull-top as well as a plastic cover that fits securely once the can has been opened.
I opened the can and as you can see from the pictures below – the strawberries were in the can – a rather pale red color and of course dry.
I removed some of the freeze dried strawberries and placed them in a bowl with some water to reconstitute them. It did not take long – only a few minutes.
TASTE TEST: When I first opened the can I popped one of the dried strawberries in my mouth. My initial impression was the taste was tart and very strong. As the strawberry absorbed moisture from my mouth – I began to realize….”Hey…..these tastes like strawberries.” Duh…..right? I then proceeded to try some of the strawberries in the bowl. I drained the water so they were not so wet – and spooned up a few. No bad. Strong flavor….which is not a bad thing. Would have been terrible to taste them and they were just “blah” – no taste. These would be great added into some cereal or on ice cream – or with other fruit.
Here is a video from Shelf Reliance about their Freeze Dried Strawberries:
Great way to add strawberries to your long-term food storage plans. I am planning to try some peaches next.

Am looking forward to trying Thrive.
Did a taste test of four brands (Mtn. House, Provident Pantry, NitroPak, Saratoga Farms) of every fruit offered. So far the ProvPantry stawberries and peaches are my favorite – a friend and I ate both #10 cans in under a week! Pineapple was also great. ALL berries except strawberries were expensive disappointments however, have not cooked with them yet. They were tasteless eaten out of the can.
Recent, and more affordable, taste tests are FD vegetables and fruit from North Bay Trading Company. They offer several sizes, all in mylar zip top bags so you can try them without investing too much. The pineapple, strawberries, green peas, corn and green beans in 3-6 oz. bags were gobbled up while I was using veggies in a soup. They are all outstanding!! They also offer Wild rice and several soup mixes. Packaging is functional and durable.
Wish more of the FD companies offered smaller packages or ‘sample packs’ of their products – hate spending $35 for blueberries that taste like cardboard.
Look forward to your peaches taste test.

I wonder with all these new labels of prep line foods coming out, if they are being produced by the same companies and just being relabeled?
I’ve tried the strawberries from Honeyville and found them to be just like strawberries. Thanks for the heads up of another possible supply line for foods. We just got a Excalibur food dehydrator recently and starting to dehydrate our own veggies – buying frozen on sale and repackaging them in vacuum sealers and mylar bags (after dehydrating of course). It’s basically what the commercial companies do at 1/2 the cost.
