Review: Survival Gear Bags’ Paladin Go Bag
Paladin Go Bag – A Review

When I first saw the bag on SGB website it really intrigued me. My first thought was it would be great for a Urban Survival Kit (USK)- but I think it is too military looking for that – unless it is a total WROL situation. My second thought was it would be great as a Get Me Home Kit or a Vehicle Survival Kit. Due to its slim profile – it can fit in tight spaces where other bags won’t.
As described via the SurvivalGear Bags website -

Purpose: As described earlier – this bag was designed for soldiers. This bag works great fitting into tight spaces that are often found in choppers or Humvees. It can fit between seats in most vehicles.
Size/WeightColor: See the details above for specific sizes.
The main compartment is very large. There is lots of room for numerous items. Some may feel this is a draw back as it would be easy to loose small items if a bunch were just thrown in. The main compartment is great for holding larger items – or collections of smaller items that maybe separated by zip-loc bags or small boxes.
The 3 outer pockets are perfect for boxes of shotgun shells – FYI. Lots of room in each of those pockets – but not too much. First aid kit in one, ammo in another, few spare magazines in the last – as an example.
Website specs list the weight a 2.0 pounds – but it doesn’t seem to weigh that much to me.
The Go Bag is available in Black and Coyote Brown (my favorite).
Construction: Constructed of 1000 Denier Nylon Weight (Cordura) and comes with a lifetime warranty. Stitching looks great (no frays or loose stitching). Double stitching and reinforcement throughout the bag. Shoulder sling has good padding. Overall – the bag feels very rugged and durable. This is not something you will find in the Back to School section at Wal-Mart.
Versatality: Can fit many roles including an overnight bag, evasion & escape, small survival kit, vehicle survival kit, carrying supplies for hiking, trauma kit, gym bag, etc. Very versatile. It is not a bag for a full size survival kit that you will take out in the wilderness – but is so useful. Due to the single sling – it can be postioned across your back one minute – then slid around in front of you for easy access the next. Molle attachments are numerous and well positioned.
Value/Price: At just under $60.00 – it is a good value. It is a high-quality item and built to last.
Final Thoughts: Reading over my review I realized I really had nothing to say that was negative. Well – it is what it is. I am very impressed with it. I can see myself buying a few more. If any of you also have had experience with this bag – I’d like to hear your thoughts.
I highly recommend the Paladin Go Bag.

This bag looks a lot like the Hazard 4 Rocket bag. It has the same basic slim design for getting in and out of vehicles. After receiving one and checking it out I can say that it was not the most comfortable in the world. I do like the one sling setup and have since gotten another brand. The reason for the discomfort is the location of the strap. If you will look at the pic, it is supposed to ride across your back and chest diagonally. that is fine if you don’t have much in it, or are a smaller person, but from experience I can tell you, even with the side strap on the Rocket, it will end up next to your neck and rub it raw. I researched the ever-loving hell out of this topic across all of the forums and youtube and finally made a second plunge, buying a Maxpedition Kodiak Gearslinger. Now, why is different you ask? Well, if you look at the strapside of it the strap is to one side, like a backpack, as opposed to being right dead in the middle. This allows the pack to set on your back more like a backpack, but still have the convenience of sliding it around in front of you without taking it off. The side retaining strap helps secure the load also. The Kodiak also has tons of space and pockets. I hope this helps someone save a couple bucks and some effort on down the road.
**I did not receive any compensation, nor was I given any gear from any company spoken of**

This is a great bag. I have one that I am currently setting up as a “Get Home Bag” that I will always have in my vehicle. I selected it because it is big enough without being too big, as I tend to fill the available space of whatever pack I am using. The price can’t be beat for this level of quality.

Hi Firebilly –
Thanks for the info. Maxpedition makes some great stuff. I have a Jumbo Versipack.
I plan to limit the total weight of my Go Bag to arround 25 pounds.
Thanks – Rourke

Finally a bag that will fit behind the seat in a pick-up truck. Thanks.
