Reader response to guest post
Several days ago I recieved a response from D.G. - and wanted to pass it on to all of you.

I have read many a prep/survival post about different preparations people have made. Different folks have posted their choice of weapon, fire starter, flahlight, raincoat, back pack, even their vehicle of choice for bugging out. Others have an established and stocked place in the country. But the question that continues to plague me is, “How can I defend it?”
I am pretty well stocked for an event either short or long term that would disrupt normal commerce and normal life. But as I look at my home in a country neighborhood, I realize that it is in an indefensable position. If I had all the fighters and weapons I could desire, I would still be in a critically inadequate defensive position. Remember the Alamo? Not the slogan, but the military lesson it should provide. A static location is ultimately a static target. Regardless of your bug out location, eventually you will be found, and may be found by bad people or good desparate people. Either way, people motivated to deprive you and yours for their benefit. Eventually either as a manpower weapon deficiency or a tactical error you may find yourself in the weaker position.
I believe that survival will require transition between several different positions that are not built in to defensable positions but because of geographical or topographical characteristics lend themselves to defense and escape. These locations need to be located prior to an event that would force you to flee your current home and must be cache’d with the tools for long term survival. Not one location but three or four locations. Options are to your advantage. Pick you locations, cache long term survival items; seeds, tools, weapons and ammo. Better yet sow the seeds randomly now and let them go to seed. They will be there when you need them, Food, water and shelter are short term survival items that you will learn to hunt/ gather as you move or you will perish. You simply can not travel with every thing you need. And if you could you are presenting a tantalizing target.
It is my hope that some sense of community will return in time but until then, enjoy the fruits of your preparations during short stays at several prestaged locations and the comfort of familiar travel routes between them.
Good points D.G. -

Great post. This is a great plan. I hope that as preppers that we can come together and make a network of sorts that makes this sort of travel possible. We as preppers have to and should stick together. We should all have cache’s of stuff but we should also be able to rely on other preppers too. Most preppers have the extra stores in place for charity situations. We should be able to count on each other should or plans not work out as we had them planned.
