Preparedness Projects and Planning…..

Via my previous blog before it was moved here – slightly updated:

survival planning

I am a huge planner.

I plan my finances. I plan my vacations. I plan my own tasks at my job. Ever since I can remember I have had a piece of paper and listing things that I need or want to do. Planning for preparedness is no different. I use a  Preparedness Spreadsheet as I look to the future and consider more food stuffs, more defensive weapons to obtain, back up power plans, communication methods, etc.

I am currently trying to improve my planning methods. Rather than just a yellow college ruled notepad – I am going a little more high tech. First – I am using a calendar and task program called EssentialPIM Free 3.54. I use the free version and run it off a USB thumbdrive. I am using the program to schedule “life appointments”, and also using it for preparedness. Scheduling when to purchase this or that – as well as things to research or things to do. This keeps this stuff right in front of me. I can schedule to purchase 10 cans of beans, a brick of .22LR rounds, waterproof matches, or schedule when to buy seed potatoes as well as some buckets to plant with. So far – it is working out well.

I have set a few substantial goals for myself and my family for the next 6 months of so. Always looking to the future I want to improve my families financial situation. Past that – preparedness fills the rest of my list. Here are a few:
  • Increasing food stores
  • Obtain 6 months of diabetes supplies (my 11 year old son has been a diabetic since 2.5 years old)
  • Purchase a 12V refrigerator (for insulin)
  • Purchase a Taurus PT1911 .45 ACP pistol
  • Buy a red dot sight for my Stag Arms AR
  • Overall better organize my supplies

Your list may look totally different. Also – my list may change depending upon situations. If I find a great deal on a Glock 17 9mm – I may not purchase the Taurus. If funds are tight – I may not purchase the red dot sight. I find that change is OK as long as I am still heading in the right direction.

So, what do you have planned? Are you stashing anything away each week? Do you know how to grow cucumbers? In many area’s it is not too late. Do you know CPR or Emergency First Aid? Plan to take a class. Do you know how far above your target you have to aim at 150 yards if you are sighted in at 100? Well, plan to find out.

Just remember one thing…..if you accomplish nothing that you have planned – you will be no closer to your goals than you are right now.

Take care all -

Rourke
