Preparedness Poll: Buying American made preparedness supplies…….
Please answer extremely honestly……..
If you would be willing to pay more for American-made survival & preparedness products – but not 50% – please leave a comment and let me know how much more than similar items made in China, Philippines, Korea, etc.
Thanks – Rourke

Being a latecomer to prepping and sensing that time is running out, and considering that my funds are limited, I can’t afford to buy American if it costs more. If a time comes when I’m closer to being well-situated or extra funds magically become available, then I certainly would pay more. But when you’re concerned about personal survival of yourself and your family, buying American (while a good idea) falls down the priority list a bit.
In some cases, however, American-made is the best choice regardless. I own a Country Living grain mill, for instance, and all my grain and similar is grown here, plus I have a bunch of Mountain House stuff.

I would pay 30-40% more. 50% or more would cause a knee jerk reaction in me to look elsewhere. I’m not proud of that but it’s true.

I would probably pay up to 30% more for American made items, but it would depend on what the item is and how much it costs.

Would be willing to pay more, but 50 to 100% is quite a premium, particularly if the products are relatively equal in quality and availability.

Unless I simply cannot find what I am looking for with a Made in USA label or I need axle grease at 3 AM (Wal Mart, damn them, is the only place to go) I always buy American. I’ll simply shorten up somewhere else in the budget to make the cost work.

Depending on the item, the quality and when I thought I would need it I would pay up to 50% more for an American made item. I have paid more for things I needed NOW vs waiting for a cheaper price after I needed it. I will pay a premium for quality on what I consider must haves for survival- Weapons, Ammo, Food, Meds, Books, Tents and sleeping bags, etc. I am trying to hold off on purchasing made in China poncho liners until lI can get my hands on USA made from the surplus store. I think we all have a limit on what we can afford and even if we want to support buy American, it can cut into the items and quantity of items we purchase due to that premium.

I would definetly buy american even if its 50% more it does depend on the product though, years ago made in america ment something, it dose not anymore however. If you want cheap crap then china is the way to go. dont get me wrong there are plenty of shitty shitty things made here(or at the very least sold here) i.e. snuggies bedazzalers and the like, im sure there are many inventions that americans have made that are worthless as far as survival goes but as i said earlier made in america used to mean something, I would suggest looking for prepatory items that were made here in america but that were made more than 30 years ago(plus or minus). Back then if it was made in america it was a good product(for the most part, im sure there was lots of crappy things made here in the 60′s n 70′s, dont get me started on the 80′s) Take a powertool made in the 50′s or 60′s. My grandfather still has some of them and they work fine (a little heavy yes, but you can drop one of his circular saws off a roof and it will be fine, try that with a modern craftsman saw n see what happens!) hell my grandmothers vaccum(Jaws) is from the early 60′s and it works great. The point is, is that if the product is made by someone who cares about what they are producing (the old american spirit) then it usually is a good product taht will last a lifetime or more so yes if a good hearted american company is producing a good product then i will pay more. I like to use the Ruger gun company as an example, they make a superrior product (and yes i believe that they are superrior to the Glock!!!!!!!) that is more than reliable and dependable.

I would and have paid up to 25 to 30% more for American made products. 50% or more would most likely send looking for a better price.

I would certainly be willing to may more for any product made in America; however, I am not willing to make a blanket statement and say, “Yes, I am willing to pay 100% more for any product.” And, I agree with Harry, Wal Mart’s best selling item is high grade pissed offness (I made up that word).

I wish I could say with some sense of truth that I thought that American made products had an edge in quality, but unless it’s something ONLY made in America, I might lean towards a Japanese product as the Japanese worker isn’t consumed with resentment that the guy next door has a bigger bass boat than he does. The Japanese worker comes to work to do the best job he can (that’s how he keeps his job) the American assembly worker sucks up to the union steward so he can go to the bar instead of assemble product. It makes me sick, but I’ve pretty much given up on most of my countrymen. May God help the United States of America.

I answered yes to this for one reason.
When looking for quality I haven’t been disappointed with Made in America!
I can’t say that for everything I have ever bought. But when I am considering two objects and one is made here (outside of most cars…) the majority of the time the better product is American. If I had to make something for my neighbor and something for someone in china, which one would I put more effort into? Same goes for them.

I would go to 30% for good gear and high end stuff, but I am sad to say, I am struggling for resources as it is. i would pay more than 50% if the quaity and value are there

I love my neighbors and I would like to help them out by buying American, but the only reason we can’t make better goods for cheaper is because of Government taxes, regulations, and interference. I refuse to “buy American” because it supports the crooks in DC and promotes the status quo.
