Politics, the White House, and gun control…….

I have never been more concerned about a Presidential election than I am with this one. I also have never been more disgusted. As Obama continues to run television ads and I watch his verbiage during campaign stops – I just want to puke. The unbelievable spewing of lies and hypocrisy is overwhelming. It also is an indication as to how far gone the electorate is that they are not aware of the untruths, trickery, and radical direction this administration is heading. Just the fact that the current polling data shows Obama and Romney are close is depressing.

My 13 year old son recently asked me – “Dad, I have heard many time how good a president Ronald Reagan was. I have heard many people say he was the best President ever. Why can’t the government just duplicate the things he did to make this country better?”

I slowly turned my head and yelled – “Holy @$*%!! You are 100% correct!! You would think that something like that would happen. Unfortunately the corrupt and power hungry politicians don’t put the country first and they utterly lack common sense.”

My 13 year old makes more sense than 99% of Congress and all of the White House.

Recently Obama, while campaigning, told lied to the audience that the “other side” was raising money by having all the rich folks write 10 million dollar checks and they were super-funding their super packs. Seriously!?!?!?! What an unbelievable hypocrite. Obama has been super-funded by Hollywood raising tens of millions of dollars at just one event. His super packs are running countless ads full of downright lies.

Last thing for today I want to mention is the recent theater shooting should leave little doubt that the gun control lobby and the leftist politicians – including Obama – are no doubt anti-2nd Amendment.

Comments: Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons Ban – ABC News

Recent quote from Obama“I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals — that they belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities. I believe the majority of gun owners would agree that we should do everything possible to prevent criminals and fugitives from purchasing weapons; that we should check someone’s criminal record before they can check out a gun seller; that a mentally unbalanced individual should not be able to get his hands on a gun so easily. These steps shouldn’t be controversial. They should be common sense.”

If Obama wins the upcoming election I have little doubt with his lame duck presidency he will include gun control as just one of many radical initiatives to complete using whatever means necessary.

  1. It seems to me that “a well regulated Militia” would have to include weapons that are just as powerful and strong as that of the U.S. military. Our founding fathers, when writing and adding the Bill of Rights to the U.S. Constitution, intended for us to be able to defend ourselves against a tyrannical government. How can we do that without guns? How can we do that with less powerful, less efficient guns? We can’t. And they know this.

  2. I concur with your assessment of new, overbearing gun control laws in the disastrous event of a second Obama term. He is laying low now to avoid alienating voters. He has secretly promised his supporters a renewed effort to abolish 2ND Amendment rights. Although I am a conservative Republican, I did not agree with civilian ownership of assault weapons for many years. I DO NOT feel that way now. Banning specific types of firearms is merely a step in the process for the gun control Nazis. Next comes registration of “regular” firearms. Last is confiscation. The tyrants of history proved it repeatedly. In order to enslave a people, you must first disarm them. Liberals are either too stupid to remember these lessons, or too apathetic that they don’t care. Perhaps they are dumb enough to actually want an oppressive, Socialistic government. Obama is of this mold. His father was a staunch, anti-capitalist. He was raised by his Communist grandparents. By his own admission, he hung with Marxists and radicals determined to end our way of life. I am of the belief that Obama wants to collapse our economy so he can call in the Chinese, or the United Nations and establish their type of government. This is the most important election in our lifetime. “We The People” must see through the lies and vote the Socialists out of power. Our freedom is at stake. God Save The Republic!

  3. This is exactly why Romney won’t/can’t save us either. Most politicians are pragmatic and their goal is to enrich themselves and their constituencies. They don’t “want” to tank the economy because that might get them voted out of office. ut on the otherhand they don’t want to do things that they have to accept responsibilty for later such as cutting taxes are reducing regulations, etc. A “good” politician doesn’t make waves and learns to get along and compromise. But what we need is a statesman with good sense and the will and ability to get things done. Most of what should be done to turn us around is contrary to some or many special interest groups so why would Obama or Romney or any politician do it???

  4. Obama disgusts me. I dread this election more than anything. Neither candidate deserves a single vote.
Obama lies outright, Romney just hides his a little better. And I firmly believe that Romney is as much of a gun control advocate as Obama. I don’t care if he’s a member of the NRA or not. I’m afraid that after this election, there is no going back, not ever. This country’s in for a nasty ride.

  5. I, personally, do not believe that a “political rant” is condusive to the discussion or topic of Modern Survival. Would you allow the same type of editorial to be posted if you simply substituted the name “Romney” for Obama?
Part of what makes this Nation so great, in my mind, is that we do have freedom of speech and opinion. And after the election, we all pull together to make this a greater Nation.
The problem with hard Right and hard Left is the lack of pulling together and compromise. Neither side is all right or all wrong, in my humble opinion.
I come to this site for survival information, not politics.

    • Bev

My site – my free speech.

Politics play an absolute role in preparedness. The coming economic collapse is directly related to that. Both sides were involved although I believe the “hard left” is wrong on most all their beliefs. The hard right thought correct on most.

  6. From my perspective, our country needs to make a complete U-turn to be going in the right direction (toward a more limited federal gov’t, individual liberty, foreign policy, abiding by the constitutional constraints for gov’t as set by the founders). Whether I choose Obama and keep going 180 degrees out, or Romney with his 175 degree wrong-way makes little difference. Have heard it said that maybe Obama is the better choice for libertarians (since libertarians don’t have a good choice at all), give this country a shove down the slippery slope so we get where it’s headed quicker. The sooner it’s unpalatable to enough people, the sooner we can force a ‘reset’ that might fix it. Well, fix it the way I’d like to see it fixed, YMMV. Maybe Obama winning and signing/enforcing strict gun control will be the straw? Is that worse than electing Romney and watching him cave-in to TBTF banks/big business, and the deaths/blowback from attacking Iran (w/o a declaration of war, yet again)? Neither is a good choice imo, and sick of holding my nose while I pull the lever for the lesser of two evils. Just a ticked off libertarian, and just my .02.

  8. As to politics (or, really, politicians), a dear, departed elderly friend once gave me this bit of Wisdom: ” The Democrat/Liberal politicians want to take away your rights and privileges, and make you into an obedient mind-slave, because they think that’s what’s best for you. On the other hand, the Republican/Conservative politicians want to take away your rights and privileges, and make you into an obedient mind-slave, because they think that’s what’s best for them. Don’t trust any of the s farther than you can throw a hog at feeding time. If they weren’t all liars, they’d be asking if you want fries with that, instead of being politicians.”

The years have not seemed to tarnish this particular bit of advice.

  9. hmmmm looks like it didnt like the less-than / greater-than symbols around “expletive deleted” before the single s to pluralize, and “liars” – my apologies

I agree with the above, everything should be done to keep those and any weapons out of the hands of criminals, mentally unstable and felons. but riddle me this, where in any of the above does it say anything about regular american citizens who can now lawfully bear arms? you want to keep the criminals from having arms then enforce the laws that are on hand now, dont need new ones, just convict and punish the criminal element. Holder might be a good place to start with his illegal selling of arms to another country, oh wait perhaps that dont count because of the illegal imigrants that come from there have more rights than the regular American citizen now?

    • Ben –

Your question – Where in any of the above does it say anything about regular american citizens who can now lawfully bear arms?

The answer – Obama’s statement – “I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers”

  11. Personally, I would vote for Ron Paul. But we are again left with the lesser of two evils–disgusting!

If we outlawed the lobbyists perhaps our elected officials would work for the people and not for the special interests.

I am just disgusted with politics…

  12. The career politician is FUGGING this country up.It started early and has gotten worse. I hope and pray something cataclysmic happens to the earth and maybe we can start anew, that is why I’m prepping……I just need some assault rifles to go with my two 40’s and some more ammo….

  13. Rourke,
    You are spot on.
And to counter Bevs comment, I think your commentary falls right in line with preparedness.
If Obama wins, expect gun control. I think that’s a prepper issue.
Expect financial collapse.. That’s a prepper issue
The list goes on, but you get my point

Keep speaking your opinion and don’t mind those that don’t agree.

  14. Is water wet or dry?….Really! What is it like on your planet? Your opinions are so upside-down, and to be honest, heavily influenced by self-induced brainwashing, that I wonder….
First of all there is almost NO difference between the two clowns.
Second, status quObama is NOT a Leftist. He is a corpratist owned by wall street/bigbiz/banks… just like rombot.
Third, ronny raygun was NOT some great leader, but just another bought and sold politician… in fact status quObama is actually just practicing ronnies eighth term! They are all the same…
Also, regarding ronnie, the ‘hard right’ of today, that has claimed your soul, would not tolerate reagan’s policies on war, terrorism, taxes, immigration, and torture among other things… Todays right wing wouldn’t elect him to dogcatcher.
Your only hope is that 13 year old kid of yours grows up fast….. and beats some sense into you.

    • Name –

Obviously everyone has an opinion – unfortunately I haven’t censored yours.

      Good luck to you.

  15. Reading through the comments, Its good to see the most people here understand the problem with Romney, He isn’t any better then Obama when it comes to the rights of Americans. Probably the best option for American rights is DC grid-lock which the two parties lock each other from moving forward with their agenda.

Gun laws do not stop criminals from getting guns. They will find ways to acquire them, and they will not abide by the laws. It just stops law abiding citizens from obtaining them. I suspect the most Criminals will welcome new gun laws since it gives them an advantage over their law-abiding victims.

Never forget about the Oklahoma bombing in 1995 and 9/11. No guns were used to commit the senseless slaughter of hundreds to thousands. Those that use guns today to carry out terrorism will switch to bigger and much more powerful weapons after gun control is implemented. Gun laws will not stop them from carrying out their attacks in the future, and probably result in far worse incidents.

While it may take a constitutional amendment to ban guns in America, there is nothing protecting ammunition from a ban. The US gov’t will never rid itself of guns since there are 100s of millions. However if they ban ammunition then they will effectively disable them with in a short period. Consider that the DHS and other agencies are stockpiling large amounts of ammunition, perhaps for preparation of an ammo ban with shutting down domestic production in the not so distant future. Washington would have to enact the ban overnight to prevent people from stockpiling ammo before the ban takes place. If gov’t agencies were not expecting a ban, there is no reason to stockpile over a billion rounds. Why stockpile that much when you can just order what you need, when you need it? Food^h^h^h Ammo for thought!

I also recall there is a new bill sponsored by NY and NJ to federally regulate ammo sales. The Bill would require all purchasers to have a federal license and must show a photo ID.

  16. Oh yea Ronald Reagan was a great president.
He made it legal for 4 million ilegals to vote for him.
If the republican congress gave the sitting president a fair chance to do his job we would not be talking about any of this.
If you are so afraid to live in america Leave.
Let`s see if you are safer in another country.

    • Fred –

Really? Someone needs to wake up, do some research, and stumble into reality. The DEMOCRAT majority Congress existed for most of his first term. They controlled both the Senate and House of Representatives.

  17. Rourke,

I found this article on the “www.FreedomsPhoenix.com” site and thought it relevant to your posting yesterday. As you can see from this article, there are many ‘avenues’ to gun control and ‘THEY’ (Those Hellbent on Enslaving You) will use any means, regardless how ridiculous as evidenced in this article, to obtain this control. Prepping includes everything in our universe that may affect our survival as a people. Politics is just another spoke in that survival wheel that must be dealt with. The political choices ‘they’ have given us this election season will do nothing to enhance our survival.

  18. Name,
Just like assholes, everyone has an opinion. And, just like assholes, some opinions stink. I’ll place yours in the latter category.

    Bev,
It’s Rourke’s site. If you don’t like his topics on items he considers relevant to preparedness and survival in his neck of the woods, there are hundreds of other blogs on the web which might provide you with the info you feel is important to your needs.

    Rourke,
Your even hand insofar as who you allow to rant is admirable. I’m not certain I could be so forgiving. Personally, I’d give you a couple of brownie points for your efforts. Keep up the good work – I’ll keep looking forward to reading your missives.

And as for the discussion about our current POTUS, apparently I am supposed to be more concerned about what the challenger did with his money than with what the current occupant of the White House is doing with mine.

  19. Has anyone bothered to look up the Australian gun laws of, I think 96-97?
Many, many guns were bougt back by their government. Crime initially increased because the criminals were emboldened. Guns have been heavily imported over the next decade.
    Ultimately no decrease in crime.
So, gun control was not the answer in Australia. I consider this experiment by a major country to be the best reason why gun control will not work in America–only the criminals will have the guns.

    • Bev –

      I have bothered.

According to the National Center for Policy Analysis…..

It is a common fantasy that gun bans make society safer. In 2002 — five years after enacting its gun ban — the Australian Bureau of Criminology acknowledged there is no correlation between gun control and the use of firearms in violent crime. In fact, the percent of murders committed with a firearm was the highest it had ever been in 2006 (16.3 percent), says the D.C. Examiner.

Even Australia’s Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research acknowledges that the gun ban had no significant impact on the amount of gun-involved crime:

In 2006, assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
Sexual assault — Australia’s equivalent term for rape — increased 29.9 percent.
Overall, Australia’s violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.

      http://www.ncpa.org/sub/dpd/index.php?Article_ID=17847

Bev, if every home had a security system that electrocuted burglars – I suspect home break-ins would decrease. If all firearms were removed from homes – no doubt criminals would be much more likely to engage in home invasions and burglaries. Do you not believe this to be true?

      – Rourke

  20. Rourke, you are a better man than me to allow Name’s rant. Anyone with an ounce of sense or basic understanding of history knows that he is dead wrong. A few things to remember about liberals in general:
    1) They are allergic to the truth. 2) Responsibility and accountability are curse words. 3) Like a child desperate for attention, the Left will oppose any rule, law, standard or norm that the majority respects, cherishes or holds dear. Judeo-Christian beliefs and values, the military and law enforcement are the most frequent targets of liberal scorn and contempt. (But, the barbaric practices of Islam are alright for the Left). I keep liberals in perspective by reminding myself of their hypocrisy and unethical priorities. They stand outside a prison to protest the execution of a mass murderer, but vehemently defend the horror that we call abortion.
Ronald Reagan was a great leader, probably the best President in our lifetime. He will always be loathed by the Left because their slander campaign against him failed miserably. Whereas Reagan built up America physically, mentally and spiritually, Obama is dragging us down in all three categories. This is not just my opinion. This is not conjecture or theory. It is historical fact. Great things happened with Reagan in office. It has been tragic decline under Obama, Reid, Pelosi and company. Keep the faith, my brother!

  21. John, did you READ my post on the Australian gun laws? They have PROVED that gun restrictions FAILED TO DECREASE CRIME, EVEN ESCALATED IT!

I’m Pro Guns in the hands of the people.

    I am Libertarian.

My rant???? Did you read the post? IT WAS YOUR WORDS WITH OBAMA substitute for ROMNEY! And Romney passed anti-assault laws in Mass. when he was govenor. He only changed when he wanted money from the NRA! I was trying to SHOW NOT TELL the HYPOCRISY on BOTH SIDES!

But hey, I’m oh so tired of politics. I’m not here for politics and since someone suggested that I leave if I don’t like it, well. I guess I will. Don’t bother with the “Homestead Hog” post… Beverly

    • Bev-

Guess I misunderstood about the Australian gun restrictions. I apologize.

I understood what you were doing with Obama’s and Romney’s name. Politicians – like all of us can change our minds and stance on things. I absolutely do not believe Romney is the savior – just much better than the alternative.

No need for you to go anywhere – you are always welcome here.

      Rourke
