Politics and ModernSurvivalOnline

bullshit1

Every so often I express my views regarding politics here on ModernSurvivalOnline. Almost every time I do I get a negative comment or two – as well as a few emails stating that they do not like me offering my opinion on a preparedness site. The reasoning is generally two fold:

1. First and most often is the reader has a different opinion and is on the opposite side of the political spectrum.

2. Second, some readers just do not see the relationship between politics and preparedness.

I respect everyone’s opinion but as far as #1 goes – I am right and they are wrong – just as simple as that. Sure – there is meant to be a bit of humor in that statement – but just a bit. I am confident in my beliefs and have developed them over many years of listening to both sides of the issues – using facts and common sense rather than emotion.

As far as a relationship between politics and preparedness – there absolutely is a relationship as far as I am concerned. Sure – politics do not play much of a roll when it comes to surviving in the wilderness or preparing for a hurricane, however one of the most serious threats we face today comes from irresponsible fiscal polices of our government. That totally has to do with politics.

My beliefs are based on the United States Constitution, the need for limited government, and that freedom affords humans the ability to find their maximum potential. I believe people should be responsible for themselves and the vast majority of power should rest within the States. I am a Conservative and although I do not disapprove of government funded entitlements such as food stamps and unemployment – I do believe that government just flat out failed in their efforts to “help” people within these programs most of the time. To summarize: Government is often the problem – not the solution.

Over the coming months I will continue to express my opinion on politics and political issues. In fact – politics is likely to become a larger part of ModernSurvivalOnline due to the shear importance of what is happening with this country. I may back certain candidates in all levels of the political spectrum including local, state and federal. I will absolutely use this site – and any influence I may have – to help create positive change.

I see a storm coming – and it is not going to good. We all need to get ready.

It’s going to be interesting.

  1. Thanks for standing up to the naysayers. For crying out loud, it IS YOUR SITE! Besides, having another informed opinion to draw on is always helpful.

  2. Speaking Out by Pastor Martin Niemöller:
“First they came for the Communists,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Communist.

Then they came for the Socialists,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

    Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Rourke – Continue to speak out!

  3. How can you be a constitutionalist and not disapprove of entitlements? Do you see them among the enumerated powers in the Constitution?

    • Eric –

I understand what you are saying. The government should provide for the general welfare of its citizens. With that in mind I do believe that government can provide some programs to assist the unfortunate – IF THEY WORK. That is the problem with what we have now. I do also believe the states should be in charge of the welfare of their citizens much more than Federal.

      Thanks – Rourke

  4. Rourke,

This is your site and those who don’t like it, don’t have to read or interact here. I also agree with what you said, but wish the government would turn over the entitlement programs to the states and let them run them as they see fit, if needed at all. I have always been taught that if you don’t work, you don’t eat.

  5. It’s your site. Politic away. I’ll keep reading, even if I disagree. Dialog is a good thing and that’s exactly what comment sections are for. Love your site and your insight.

  6. Thank you for your opinion…It is really important the we move away from the politically correct speech and into the honest opinion and sharing. The GONG needs to be sounded…we are in the fight of our lives! We are fighting for FREEDOM and if we do not win our Republic will be lost forever.
    Please keep spreading the word!!!

  7. To paraphrase Clausewitz, politics are warfare by other means. I would much rather fight a political war than a military war. This country is at a crossroads. There are those who want to be protected at all cost of personal liberty, those who want to be left alone by big government and accept the challenges of personal responsibility, and those who wait on the sidelines in a state of confusion. Which are you?

  8. it is your site if people don’t like it the don’t have read it as far the politics goes me im one of those the believe in the old line I would rather have something and not need it than need it and not have it

  9. Continue, Sir!! those who disagree can leave. . . . interestingly, some of the FB groups I am a member of are dealing with the same thing, but they have chosen to go the other way- no politics allowed. I glean what I can and go on. . . .

  10. Rourke, as said above it’s your site. As I see it you provide information and ideas and if people disagree, fine, but there is no reason to get negative, if they do not like the info put out they can come up with their own. America is still a free country even if some don’t like it that way. Keep up what your doing.

  11. Rourke,

Only simple minded or arrogant fools fear the opinions of others. Thank you for your stance and keep up the fantastic work. Happy New Year my friend!

  12. WHEN YALL SPEAK ABOUT ENTITLEMENTS,SOCIAL SECURITY IS A PLAN WHERE I PAID MONEY INTO EVERY PAYCHECK I EVER DRAWED PLUS MY EMPLOYER HAD TO MATCH.THE GOVERMENT STOLE THE MONEY NOW THEY WANT TO CALL IT AN ENTITLEMENT.THE WAY THEY HANDLED IT IT QUALIFIES AS A PONZI SCHEME.ALSO UNEMPLOYMENT THE CONTRACTORS I WORK FOR PAY PREMIUMS TO THE STATE TO PAY OUT CLAIMS,ITS THE FEDERAL EXTENSIONS THAT TAX PAYERS PAY.

    • Totally agree Mike. People that paid into SS should get their money. pathetic that the government continued to use it when it wasn’t theirs to use.

  13. Yes, keep the occasional blog on politics. I like to read a variety of ideas – some I agree with, some I may not. But without being challenged we can become stuck and stay stuck. I used to be at one end of the spectrum – it was how I was brought up. Experience and conversations have changed my views on many things.

  14. Anyone who doesn’t think politics has and continues to play a major role in the fragmentation of American society is delusional. Speak your mind Rourke, if I disagree I’ll let you know.

  15. Since ‘becoming’ a more serious prepper, my political views have been challenged, as well as changed…politics is what has gotten us into this morass that we are in, so politics and preparedness are definitely relevant to each other…so keep on posting Rourke! We appreciate your views, otherwise, we wouldn’t be here!

  16. Politics was once an admirable profession, today in the arena of politics “admirable” seems a strange and foreign word, it rarely fits except in some wishful thoughts of days long past… it should fit… shouldn’t it? Rourke, I wholly appreciate your acknowledgement that politics is worth the effort. I understand that far to many think that politics is something that goes on “over there” and that not only does it not matter, but it’s a suckers bet…. We know different… and considering how things have been working out for the masses lo these many years, they should to.
