For the past few years I have been reading Mother Earth News.  A “gardening, self-reliance, and green living” magazine – I enjoy the articles on gardening and soil improvement the most.

From Mother Earth News website……”Mother Earth News is the guide to living — as one reader stated — “with little money and abundant happiness.” Every issue is an invaluable guide to leading a more sustainable life, covering ideas from fighting rising energy costs and protecting the environment to avoiding unnecessary spending on processed food. You’ll find tips for slashing heating bills; growing fresh, natural produce at home; and more. Mother Earth News helps you cut costs without sacrificing modern luxuries.”

—–I couldn’t agree more.

Mother Earth News has been being printed for decades. In fact – they were promoting alternative energy sources such as wind and solar power way before it was politically correct to do so.

Each issue contains departments such as:

  • Green Gazette
  • Crop at a Glance
  • Garden Know-How
  • Ask Our Experts
  • and many more

Mother Earth News has a website that also contains a lot of information.

If you are interested in living a more self-reliant existence – you need to check this magazine out.

With respect, Mother Earth News is too /bambi/tree-hugging liberal for me. I’ll go with Backwoods Home Magazine, and Backwoodsman Magazine. Good to see another website on the important subjects!

Your right about Mother Earth News – it is no doubt liberal. However – I find only a small amount of the content spewing “global warming”. I can deal with it for the great articles and information.

Thank’s Sarge – I need to take a closer look at your suggestions and see if I can fund MORE magazines (my wife will kill me!).

Second Backwoods home. I received a free one year subscription in Desert Storm and have keep current ever since. Have read recent MEN magazines and they do have good articles (no gun articles) but no comparision to Backwoods home. IMHO
