   Our evening news last night featured a local family who lost their son in Afghanistan a few days ago. Their message to the viewers was to ask us to personally thank the soldiers we see in uniform – whether at the airport, at the grocery store, or simply out and about town. I plan to do this.

   We can never have enough reminders that we owe our freedom to the brave men and women who serve (or have served) in our armed forces.

   I’m a day late with my reply, but I also want to thank all the men and women of our armed forces who lost their lives while serving. My own military service has long since ceased, but the memories of my friends (and even those who weren’t) who gave the ultimate sacrifice to our nation leaves me feeling very small, extremely humble, and terribly thankful. May God bless the U.S.A.
