  1. Can someone please explain the knife thing to me? I understand guns and flashlights; I just can’t figure out why knives are so fascinating to preppers.

    • tpals –

For some it is a “man-romantic” thing – carrying a knife around. For preparedness – knives can do play an important role. Imagine in a grid-down, SHTF situation – and you need to cut……anything. How will you do it without a knife?

Clean a fish, cut twine, cut rope, split wood, sharpen a stick, cut fishing line, dig out a splinter, amputate a limb, carve wood – just a few.

      Take care –

  2. tpals,

The first tool/weapon Gork the Caveman picked up was a rock. Later he discovered a handy stick. The first gave him added mass to his punch, the second gave him added reach. Some time later, he figured out how to sharpen both. He then had the opportunity to enjoy a nice mastodon steak which he dispatched with his sharp stick and butchered with his sharp rock, instead of pulverized hamburger.

A knife is a tool with litterally hundreds of uses. Check out old MacGyver episodes – he could build a Nimitz class air craft carrier with his trusty Swiss Army Knife. Add to that the typical male oriented competiveness which testosterone forces upon us and you can see the reasoning behind the need for a bigger, flashier, better, tougher, etc, etc doodad of the day (knife, rifle, truck, computer, house, TV, etc).
