Garden Update……
Anyone that follows this blog will know that I consider gardening a very important skill and a major part of long term preparedness plans. Gardening is something that I personally enjoy and have incorporated it into my survival plans in the event of a major TSHTF event.
I have posted some pics of my gardens here before – and wanted to update you of how things are going.
I started my gardening very early this year due to consistant abnormally warm weather. I live in the Southeastern United States and most people do not lay seed in the ground until the end of April or beginning of May. Due to how early I started – I have harvested somewhere around 175 cucumbers, 75 crookneck summer squash, and 30 zucchini’s. I very well may be underestimating!
This has beeen the most successful gardening season I have ever had……and it ain’t over yet.
Yesterday I pulled up several summer squash, corn, and cucumber plants. The squash and cucumber had gone by and the squirrel’s ate my corn. There is still plenty of time left to grow so I replanted some cucumbers, squash and zucchini. This is one advantage of the Southeast – long growing seasons. I amended the soil with some compost and cow manure, made my mounds – and dropped my seeds.
I still have many other plants still producing so I am hoping that once they die off the newly planted ones will be ready to produce.
I will keep you updated on how things are going.
Take care all -
Rourke

Nice! We too have ventured into the gardening thing, albeit on a small scale. Our garden is 8 x 12 and has lettuce, zucchini, and beans. Living in upstate NY doesn’t give us as long a growing season, but, it’s nice having some fresh vegetables during summer from the back yard. Oh, the wife also did some strawberry plants in pots, and they yielded quite a few berries. It’s backed off now. Not sure if they’ve outgrown the pots, or, their productive span is done. Will have to see.

Hi Drew and thanks for visiting –
I have never had much luck with strawberries – I think next spring I am going to try it once again. Would like to post some pictures of people gardens to show some success stories – send me a pic.
So many people that never thought about gardening are getting ito it. I drive through neighborhoods and see small gardens all over the place.
Take care – Rourke
