From the Desk of John Rourke – December 10th, 2015

The controversy surrounding Trumps comments about disallowing Muslims into the country continues to spread through the news media, social media, and the office water cooler. Trump is being compared to Hitler – a man who is responsible for the senseless murder of millions of Jews. I think the comparison is more than ridiculous.

When I first heard his comments I was taken aback. I guess I have been socially brainwashed like most people. Then I took some time to consider just what he is suggesting. I also remembered he is not politician and does not speak in the polished manner as all the other candidates. Just what is he suggesting anyways?

From DonaldTrump.com: Trump’s plan would block Muslims from entering the United States, with an exception for U.S. citizens who are Muslim, who would come and go as they wish. He has said he hopes the ban “will go quickly,” as soon as “our leaders figure out what the hell is going on.”

“If a person is a Muslim, goes overseas and comes back, they can come back. They’re a citizen. That’s different,” Trump told “Good Morning America” Tuesday. “But we have to figure things out.”

I don’t see the problem. This is the opposite approach of Germany who plans to take in millions. It is proven that our current vetting process of Muslim’s immigrating to this country is far from effective(Boston bombing/San Bernardino). These are non-American citizens.

Maybe a complete ban is unwarranted.  Maybe there are countries where their governments provide sufficient information on its citizens that the vetting process would be satisfactory. The reality of the world we live in is we are in a war against radical Islam. They have openly admitted they will use immigration as a means to enter the United States to carry out jihad. Seems like a very just and logical thing to do. What is the alternative? Allow in potential threats that will shoot up schools, malls – and kill innocent people?

The point is if we are not sure if someone is safe to let in this country they should not come in. It doesn’t matter what their religion is. We do not have to be killed to show how tolerant a country we are.

how to bug in

Interesting – President Carter banned Iranians from entering the United States during the Iranian hostage crisis. He also ordered over 7,000 Iranian students deported as their visas were not up to date.

But hey…..what do I know?

  1. Thanks Rourke-I didnt know Jimmy Carter did that but I am glad he did
and YES sending back Muslim students and banning new Muslims from radical countries from entering the US is an exc. idea. Building a wall a.s.a.p. on our Mexican border is also needed.
We must stop the flow of potential
terrorists in every way we can.

  2. This post takes me back to college.

A number of my peers were from foreign countries. Including one Persian, an Iranian Christian he explained. He was *not* happy about returning to Iran.

We should not forget that Syed Farook was a US citizen.

Replacing a bad leftist government with a bad rightist government doesn’t seem like a ‘win’ to me.

  3. I can remember the Carter ban and also he took some heat from it. Sadly, most of the complainers are just pushing the PC button to trying to gain points for their hopeful election. The immigration ban should be across the board for all trying to come in…just for a short period. Let’s get OUR act together and start vetting people as they use to do. Killary, Jeb and current house speaker… And others are whining about this. I saw Jeb can do in Fla while he was Governor, sure he did some good but for the most he was living on the coat tails of daddy.

Solution, Trump may not be the polished politician,- he might have donated to Dems for I business, he’s played the tax game, but he won. He is a businessman…successful and rich. He can do no more harm than the elite asshats we now have in DC. And maybe we can get a cabinet that is not Mulsim, pandering to the wants of changing our country into more of a 3rd world landscape than it is now

Just saying….we have a long hard road ahead. AND it’s going to be a nasty ride.

Be safe. Keep your head on a swivelm

  5. I am afraid that most regular politicians just don’t understand that Trump is saying what most people are feeling. We are tired of the same old BS in DC and feel they are putting this country and us at risk of another attack. Stopping a radicalized US citizen from attacking us from within is very hard to do if not impossible, but we can limit our exposure to outside risks. I wish Trump would go further than just calling for a ban of Muslims. It should really be anyone from these countries where we know terrorists are coming from. Our ability to properly check them out is limited at best. I returned from Iran about two weeks before the Hostages were taken and they were just as radical back then as they are now. The majority of the Iranians hated Americans with an absolute passion and thought nothing of killing us. I was there to support our puppet in charge, the Shaw of Iran, but even then we were not allowed to carry any American ID and were told not to let anyone know we were Americans. If they found out, it could get you assassinated. I was glad to see Carter ban Iranians from coming here and shipping the others out. I’d say it is about time to do it again.

  6. I keep hearing all the media saying how it is unconstitutional not to allow Muslims into our country. Remember this, they are not citizens of the USA therefore the Constitution does not apply to them! They can’t come here and kill Americans which seems to be their main wish anyway. If they are citizens of this country and go to fight for ISIS they should NOT be allowed to return, just that simple! Donald Trump is correct in his views and I stand with him and all who do not want them here without being checked out thoroughly.

  7. Mark -exc point re our beloved Constitution and many who come here who are Muslims want Sharia-I say go back or go to jail.Arlene
    Sharia law is unconstitutional.

  8. It has always amazed me that after 9-11-01, student visa’s for those of islamic nations continued to be issued.

A Global war… Not knowing, should have dictated the controlling of border’s to the upmost ability, stopping all visa’s except diplomatic from all nations not of NATO membership.

Why do we continue to educate student’s and train military from islamic nations? Frankly, I agree with Mr Trump. I may not vote for him, but we agree on this point.

  9. This country has millions of citizens out of work… millions of citizens on government handouts… millions of veterans that cannot get proper medical attention… thousands of active military that are barely above the poverty line… a declining middle class that can no longer fund the government budgets…

I say we discontinue ALL immigration until we can take care of our own citizens.

I sincerely hope and pray for a Trump/Cruz ticket.

  10. What was Hitler supposed to do with the Jews? They declared war on him in 1933. Sabotage of German shipping, industry, and farms was commonplace. People that condemn Herr Hitler also need to understand the dynamics of the Danzig Corridor, a little tidbit left out of Western History Books. The Poles rose up and killed 60,000 ethnic Germans on one Sunday Afternoon in August 1939. Hitler counterattacked, not invaded, Poland on September 1st 1939. The rest is History, except the much deserved credit that is rightfully due to the man that kept Stalin at bay long enough for us to get the ‘bomb’. If not for Herr Hitler none of us would be here today. It is proven fact that Stalin had already given the order to invade Europe all the way to the English Channel. The invasion would have started on August 10. of ’41 if Hitler had not struck first on 21 June ’41. And just for the record Adolph never killed six million jews. The total was three million. Furthermore, most of those died during the last six months of the war when Germany could not even feed itself. We bombed German cities into ruin, killing over a million women and children, so if everyone doesn’t mind, let’s lay off Hitler and look our own ghosts in the eye please. thanks for your time.

    • Taxdn2poverty – I never thought I would see anyone in the pages of MSO come to the defense of the likes of Hitler. I suspect that those Jews that witnessed and survived the concentration and extermination camps and saw the senseless torture would disagree with you……as well as these Jewish children.

    • Had to take a day or two to digest this swill and have come to the conclusion that YOU have either got to be a troll looking to incite to spew shit like this or you are one f’ed up individual that needs to get some serious therapy. No rational thinking human being would believe a word of what you just wrote. I have read alot of history both by the victors and the defeated and have never come across anything close to what you have extolled above. hitler was a demon straight out of hell. Being a decades long suffer of untreated syphilis, he was absolutely mad as a hatter by the end of the war as evidenced by the photo rourke posted above. Unbelievable that you dismiss the atrocities of hitler and suggest that we look at our own misgivings–MAYBE you should move to the middle east–I Hear IS IS is looking for a few good retards. Ban me if you must rourke

  12. I am with Ron. The ban should be across the board against all immigration, the Bill of Rights does apply to non-US citizens (it is a recognition of rights that already exist, it does not create those rights), so a ban on only Muslims would be unconstitutional.
Not to mention it’s pointless to ban one religion from immigrating here as people can lie about their religion (which is allowed under Sharia law) to get around that policy.

  13. Ahhh–1979 and Jimmy Carter–I enlisted that year and thought for sure we were going to take care of the Iranian problem then, but Nooooo–I ended up in hondurous giving weapons to el Salvador thru the back door deal Reagon and Ollie North had going on–(oh–didn’t know WHAT we were doing at the time and let me tell you that place sucks). WE should have finished it then then maybe we wouldn’t have this now. Just my thoughts.

  14. I’d agree .. some version of No immigration takes it out of the “quit picking on Muslims” political cross hairs.
However .. we have porous borders .. and don’t enforce existing immigration law.. so I am not sure how piratical it would be in implementation for actual improvement in security really. It would limit legal immigration .. which are likely the only immigrants you actually want.. or more likely safer anyway.
Close the borders, and deport those who are not legally documented and current, for starters. Tighter legal immigration, to disallow entry until they prove who they are. In IT I know many folks who entered here to work, stayed on H1B and have never used the name the were born with. That is just wrong. Zero benefits to anyone who is not a citizen, and a much reduced set of “rights” until they are. If they want to go to court. Fine .. do it from your country of origin .. since it can take YEARS to do anything, which neuters the process. I guarantee it will reduce the load on the courts.
With the possible exception of American Indians, I don’t think there is a place for a hyphenated Americanism. Either support the country that provides your succor or leave. I think that idea might actually include many people born here for some generations.
We do need a good set rules equally applied .. and ya know we suck at that .. IMO.

On some of the disagreement above.. You can define almost anything by any perspective and either demonize or vindicate it from a viewpoint. I’m not taking sides .. or trying not to.
What could I say if I compared Nazi Germany to Planned parenthood.. Or about the American Revolution from a British Historical view point. I would say all 3 are un-American and against what we support and therefore wrong.. and I think I’d be right. from my view anyway.
So how do I reconcile that one of the 3 is an American institution ? I can’t, personally. And there are others..
Refugees while we have homeless vets that can’t get help from the VA.. the list goes on and on..
We need to clean up our own yard .. badly. Comparing America to other bad things is no justification for accepting those wrong things ..
Down that road is “good enough” or “let it go” .. Can we do that and make America any better. I don’t think so.
again .. IMO and not meaning to make anyone mad or pretend to be morally superior .. I’m not, but I am working every day to be better using the good rules I think we have been given.. We CAN all do that.
    Because I can’t do it all, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t do all I can.

sorry for the e-book rant.. I’m overly verbose usually 🙂

    • goingray –

      “Because I can’t do it all, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t do all I can.”

I like that and I am going to steal it!

As to everything else good point on the open borders. I have thought of that fact and not seen anyone else much mention it. That is an entire issue onto itself that is related. This administration does not seem overly concerned with our open borders – and the security of the country as related with those entering via legal means doesn’t seem to change their perspective as well.

      Thanks

  15. sorry, but takn2poverty is spouting bullshit. . . . . . so killing 3 million is ok, but 6 million is bad? my Father and Uncles risked their lives fighting the nazis. .. .I will not sit still when someone trots out the “it’sall the Jews fault”. If you want to ban me for speaking up, go ahead
