Eye’s are wide open………

This past weekend turned out to be a very educational and eye-opening. I attended the Charlotte PrepperCon in Charlotte, NC and found myself by the end of the day more informed and also intrigued.

Steve Nolan of SurvivalWeek.com put on an exellant presentation on EMP. Very educational. He combined tremendous verbal information with a series of related pictures which were shown behind him as he talked. The combination really went well together and helped make the entire presentation work.

By the way – this is the first preparedness conference I have managed to get my wife to attend. The EMP presentation above certainly helped open here eyes a bit to the threats that exist in this world.

Rich Davis of DCG Real Assets gave what I found to be a complicated but very educational presentation on  money, real assets, the history of monetary value, and governmental debts and deficits. Really good.

Engineer775 and SouthernPrepper1, aka Scott and David from YouTube did a great job discussing water and bugging out. Good people and their website PracticalPreppers.com offers some good preparedness supplies and serves.

SurvivalBlog.com guru James Wesley, Rawles called in after lunch and answered questions from the audience for around an hour. great information.

During the event I was able to meet a few readers who recognized me which was great.

I also had the opportunity to meet one of ModernSurvivalOnline’s sponsors – Two Sisters of the South. They specialize in food storage products and I was able to try a few samples of GoFood’s products. My favorite so far is the Corn Chowder which was very tasty. My 9 year old loved the Broccoli Cheddar. I picked up a couple of new samples to bring home. Brenda’s was a sweetheart.

I think the event has helped my wife see that I am not a complete nut – or at least I am not the only one. I expect over the next week or so we will talk more about what she heard and saw. My hope is she becomes more understanding of my preparedness.

how to bug in

The most eye opening experience from the conference actually came after I got home. I was given a copy of the movie “Agenda: Grinding America Down” from one of the vendors there. I had heard of the movie previously but really did not know what it was about. I will be doing a review of it soon – but as I type this Sunday afternoon I have become angry…..very angry from watching the movie.

All I can say right now as I watch it a second time is it is a must see movie. I wish every American would watch it.

If they did…..there eye’s would be wide open to what is really going on in this country.

  1. I did not see the movie “Agenda: Grinding Down America”, but I believe I will buy it. I have lectured on this topic for years, the Left undermining our way of life slowly through deception and molding the minds of the uniformed and our youth. It boggles to mind that people cannot see the government eroding away the liberties envisioned by our Founding Fathers. I have witnessed first hand the oppressive grip of Communism and the horrible impact on the general populous in countries that fell to the hammer and cycle. I hope and pray we can stop it here in the United States before it is too late. Information is our greatest weapon! We need to tell the truth to Americans: We are NOT the bad guys! Vilifying Judeo-Christian beliefs, Capitalism, the Constitution, private ownership of land and firearms are all part of the plan. Step by step, the loss of our freedoms, all leads to the Communist/Socialist, New World Order (UN?) plan.

  2. one question i have that i about an EMP is that if an EMP or a solar event that caused an EMP effect happened

would lightbulbs be surged and pop? (i.e. shatter?) especially bulbs that are in fixtures (connected to house wiring etc)

and would bulbs in boxes unconnected to wiring be affected negatively?

a couple reasons – one if that happened all residential type lighting could/would be destroyed so even if you have a generator or backup power (solar, wind) that still would mean a lot of darkness.

and two – most importantly – if you have a houseful of CFL bulbs pop at one time – that would be a dangerous amount of mercury that everyone would breathe in and very difficult to clean up safely especially with no electrical power (or potentially light) to do it

i think this could be a serious health issue that i’ve not seen anyone address before.

thanks for any insight you may have or perhaps even if you can ask this of Steve Nolan.

  3. Do you know if they are planning to have another prepping conference anywhere else in the southeast? I really wanted to go but it was too far away for me. I would think that there are a lot of other people who are in the same boat.

  4. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to have a spouse who was not on board with prepping. I have heard that this is often the case with one or the other prepping on the sly. Fortunately for me I support the wise purchases of my husband in this regard and any time I see a good deal on food he says, “Get it!”. We may disagree on a few things but thankfully prepping is not one of them.

  5. Rourke, “Thank you…” for posting the information about Charlotte Prep Con! My group of three drove over 8 hours from the Washington, DC area to the event. It was well worth the trip. By the way, there was someone who drove from Ohio to the event. The presenters were great, I learned some new from everyone involved. Unfortunately, I didn’t think about meeting you. Nonetheless, keep up the great work. Moreover, I will be traveling down south again, however, this time it will be for the Self Reliance Expo. Hopefully, I’ll see you there. Peace and Blessings…
