Ramblings from John Gault’s Homestead

If you are a long time reader you may remember frequent commenter and sometime contributor John Gault. He comes around now and then but over the past couple years has written some fantastic stuff – and I thought I would share with those that maybe failed to read his work the first time around.

John Gault lives in Georgia on 40+ acres of country land. He left a good paying job and relocated to this small piece of paradise. John has been working his land and moving step-by-step towards building something he can not only call his own but provide

A short note…..

Hello all -

I am sitting here in my living room thinking about the day I have planned tomorrow. Will be getting up and going to church in the morning. At 2:00pm I meet with a preparedness group which I am a member. At 3:30 I have to be at the Crossfit box(aka gym) where they are wanting me to start coaching an MMA Circuit Training class. Once that is done need to go to the grocery store, buy a Christmas tree, and hang some decorations on the house and in the yard. It’s going to be busy. The point

Been a long three weeks….

Must be something in the water. These last three weeks have been extremely stressful. Work has provided insurmountable evidence that the gene pool in my area has seriously been tainted. We have had some financial challenges with vehicle problems, medical bills mounting, and of course Christmas approaching. Things will be tight – but we will make it through just fine.  I have a teenage son that believes he knows more than me. Aaaaarrrggghhh! I have been taking Crossfit very seriously and hitting the Box (aka Crossfit gym) daily – sometimes twice a day. Diet has been extremely good. Mental

Veteran’s Day

Veterans Day_1

Today is Veteran’s Day. Thank a veteran today for stepping up and doing what so many just refuse to do – which is take a stand and serve to the benefit of this country. Wars are fought for a variety of reasons – and many may disagree to the need for such wars. Regardless – those that serve and fight do so and deserve our honor and respect.

To all those Veteran’s that may read this – THANK YOU!!

Random thoughts…….

Thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers regarding one of my martial arts instructors getting killed. Details are still coming in but it is really a shame. She was always extremely nice – always willing to help. I feel bad for all her students that will be coming to class this coming week (if the school is open) expecting to see her and finding out she is gone. Tons of kids were under her guidance – many as young as five. Thanks everyone.

Several customers are still awaiting their Survival & Preparedness DVD’s. They are in the mail and everyone

The Book of the Empowerer

The Book of the Empowerer

These are not all original. Many of them you may have heard used colloquially. I just decided to make a list of some words to live by; words to grow by; words to empower.

by M.B.

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance Emergencies Are Just Unplanned Reality Checks Information Leads to Knowledge. Knowing How To Apply That Knowledge Is Understanding. Knowing When To Apply That Understanding Is Wisdom From A Far Enough Distance Everyone Looks The Same – Choose Your Companions Wisely If You Aren’t Ready-Get Ready. If You Are Ready-Stay Ready.

Day of relaxing……sort of

Hi folks, I have traveled to my brothers place in Georgia for the weekend. Hoping to get some serious relaxing done….along with some “run and gun” shooting. I enjoy getting back to the countryside and connecting with nature.

During this momentary break from the craziness of society I plan to catch up on some reading and maybe some writing. Lately life has been stressful and “writers block” has set in. It will pass….eventually.  I am also working on the announcement for the winners of this last Guest Post Contest. It’s a tough job.

I also recently received a portable solar

A few random thoughts……..

A few random thoughts:

Probably just a fantasy and not worth the money – but I am really intrigued by the TAVOR bullpup rifle. I have yet to even pick one up – but from what I have read I like it. Any of you ever shot it?

Interesting information about FEMA inquiring with food suppliers about maximum purchases allowed and how fast they can ship. Thanks Brenda(ThePreparednessGuru.com) for sending it in: http://www.mypatriotsupply.com/Articles.asp?ID=315.

Ammunition seems to be in much better supply and prices are starting to return to more normal prices. I have managed to pick up

A few random thoughts…….

A lot has been going on lately – both with myself and these pathetic efforts of our government to destroy our lives (we’ll talk about that another time).

Have had a lot of problems with this website lately. Everything should be good now but went through a period where access to the site had to be limited due to what appears to have been a series of hacking attacks. Extremely frustrating and wastes so much time. If you have any problems with the site – please let me know.

A major event in my life………

Last Sunday (Easter), I gave my life to Jesus Christ.

For the past several years I have felt a void in my life that nothing seemed to fill. Maybe it is getting older. Maybe it is getting a little wiser. I felt like God was absent from my life and I wanted to fix that. Religion was never something I was comfortable with. The church experience was boring to me and  I just never seemed to fit in.

This past Fall my family was invited to a local church and I really didn’t want to go. We ended up going and I was blown

This week I will be “off grid” to a large extent. Any issues with the site will be taken care of – but likely with a substantial delay. Comments are being automatically approved. Emails will be answered – but again, with a substantial delay.

This week there will be mix of some “Blasts from the Past” re-posts as well as some new content. The most reason Guest Post Contest has ended and winners will be announced likely on Sunday April 7th or possibly on Monday the 8th.

Also – I will be announcing the prize line up for the April-May Contest soon

Spring is coming and a few random thoughts………

Gardening – Here in the South the weather has really turned warm in the past week. On Saturday the temps got up in the 70′s. Those warm rays beaming down from the sun reminded me that in just a few weeks many of us will begin preparing to garden. Those that start seeds indoors likely already have started their gardening preps.

The weekend around April 6th – weather allowing – will be my start. Tilling the garden, adding some amendments, and starting to plant some seeds are tasks to be done. Over the past few years I have planted most

Life is busy……….

Here’s one of those posts that I just write and ramble on.

Besides my work, going to Crossfit a few times a week, and maintaining my websites – I have two new ventures. I have joined a church group that meets every Wednesday night – and am thoroughly enjoying this new path in my life. I also am participating in a church youth group that my 14 year old attends on Thursday nights.

I appreciate the words of encouragement from many of you when I mentioned my finding a church that I have been attending.

I have been catching up on

A few things on my mind…….

Interesting that most all of the preparedness”experts” out there have proposed for years the need to have weapons of common caliber so that in most any crisis ammunition should be able to be found. I also have been a proponent in this. Guess what? WRONG!! Just look at the recent events where we have had – and continue to have – a gun control legislation emergency. Whether it is just a panicked population or logical reaction – he results are the same – no ammunition available. Those that own a .30-30, a .357 or .38, a .270 or

Ammunition and magazine gouging……

As many of us search the Internet as well as our local stores for ammunition and magazines for our firearms, some of the prices being seen are very frustrating. Let me state for the record that I not only expect – but I support a 20% or so price increase by my local gun shop on ammunition, magazines, and high-demand firearms.

They sell products to make money to pay themselves and their employee’s. Profit – it drives many of us. They have had a substantial part of their product lines removed or diminished from their inventory due to high demand. So – they

A few thoughts on continued gun control efforts…..

Well – your President signed 23 Executive Orders on Wednesday in response to several recent mass shootings. Many gun owners all over the country are breathing a giant sigh of relief in that the President did not reclassify commonly owned semi-automatic firearms as Class 3. He did not institute a 50% tax on ammunition. He did not do many of the things which people have feared he would.

Well, we are all in the clear, right? WRONG. Although these 23 Executive Orders may not prevent the vast majority of us from going to our local gun shop and buying

Rourke’s thoughts on Newtown, Connecticut massacre…….

Terrible. There are no words to describe what sorrow, what frustration, what agony the friends, parents and relatives of those killed must be going through. What a waste of human lives destroyed by an evil and sick person. Regarding the specifics of the event – I don’t think there is much more to say. As I said – there are no words…..

Now – I really struggled whether or not to write this. Should I even write anything? Will my words be taken as some kind of disrespect? Well – obviously I decided to provide my thoughts. I have
