I have been a “closet prepper” for the last twenty years or so without even realizing that I was part of a unique group of people. Glad to be a member of such “smart” guys and gals. Although I am a “small” prepper in comparison to others, I feel so good about being prepared.

And thanks to National Geographic channel for bringing “prepping” to the forefront. So much activity and so much information is now being spread around the country………..and probably the world!!

I live in the countryside, surrounded by herbs and plants and trees so this book would be an excellent resource for me.

Clearly the Doctor Bones I know didn’t write this… “Dammit Jim, I’m a doctor, not a botanist.”

Knowledge is power. We girls are going to need all the power we can get if we have any hope to make it through to the other side with our dignity in tact. The future is going to be ugly but so much more so for the women of this world than for the men

To be prepared, we need to continue educating ourselves on a regular basis by reading different books and stocking up on food, medical supplies, selfdefence, etc.

Looks like a great book to have in the prepper library!!!

You have a great site. I have a suggestion for a post. Can you suggest alterations to kits, bobs, edc bags and such for cold weather environments? I know ceramic filters do not do well in freezing temperatures. In my bob I have a stainless steel canteen with coffee filters and water treatment tablets. Also canned food do not store well in the truck. Any advice would be great.

Rourke, great job on your website. It’s part of my daily reading.

I teach preparedness seminars with a Christian disaster response organization call Crisis Response International (www.criout.com). I recommend you website data base to the trainees regularly. This medical handbook looks like it would be a good resource for responders.

Thanks again for all you do to keep others informed. Keep up the good work.

Your site is one of my daily reads. I appreciate all the hard work, compassion and sense of humor you put into it. All the buzz about striking Iran suggests that things may start unraveling any time now. Being prepared has never been more important. Best to all and hope to see you on the other side.

What has been happening in the world today (and the last 20 years) is totally bizarre, liberties and freedoms taken away, and having a book such as this sure would help in the coming difficult days ahead. Thank You for the opportunity to win “The Doom and Bloom Survival Medicine Handbook”!

  31. By Tonya, March 4, 2012 @ 8:34 pm

My favorite thing isn’t materialistic. In fact, it’s a new appreciation for what I have; my family and friends. New to “prepping”, I took a look at the many possibilities we face as our country collapses all around us and realized just how little material things really matter. So, for me and my family it is a huge change but, a positive one, as we are learning to become more dependent on ourselves, living healthier, selling off unnecessary stuff and continuing to learn more and more as we go. Recently, we started composting and building a greenhouse!

  32. By PSD, March 4, 2012 @ 9:35 pm

  38. By Brenda, March 4, 2012 @ 11:39 pm

Having a Survival Handbook would be a great benfit to my family. I have three boys and a husband to care for. We have been preparing for hard times since 2008. However, because the needs are so great we cannot purchase everything we feel we will need if/when there is a great emergency. We have concentrated on food, and learning new skills (gardening), etc. Gardening is expensive, but more than pays for itself when you are successful. As a beginner Gardening has not paid for itself at this time, however the experience has been so valuable. Even the losses have been teaching moments. I would appreciate the medical book and share with those of like mind the site and place to purchase a copy for their preps. Thank You for the opportunity to register to win.

  39. By Kim, March 4, 2012 @ 11:44 pm

Your website is a daily read for me, I really appreciate all you do. Prepping can get financially difficult for me, I will admit I have only been able to buy one preparedness manual thus far. I do think a library of various books is a must for every prepper, so it would be great to win this book. Good luck to everyone! And to those folks sitting on the fence still, you better jump off! Look around you, the signs are obvious. Rely on yourself!

  61. By Jean, March 6, 2012 @ 11:17 am

The Great Depression started when I was two and I spent my teens in WWII. I have always kept reserve food in the house thanks to my parents’ and grandparents’ examples from that time. When the Millennial Meltdown was promised, I beefed up our food supply and laid in oceans of water. I’m 84 now and planning for the Greater Depression. My garden will be twice as large this year and I have bought a dehydrator to preserve the most food in the smallest space possible. I have used alternative medicine for 40 years. I hope I’m ready for The Big One that’s coming. If i’m wrong, I’ll thank my lucky stars. As an ex Scout leader for 15 years, I live by the motto, Be Prepared. If I win the survival meds handbook, I’ll know the Universe is rooting for me.

This is a great giveaway. Thanks for letting us participate.

I’m just getting started with my preps (Food: rice & beans, for now; BOB almost ready, GHB is on the list for next month), and just purchased my first firearm (LOVING IT!) and started purchasing some bulk ammo.

OK…. thanks for letting me share, too!

  64. By Eric, March 6, 2012 @ 7:55 pm

One survival skill that I believe is extremely underestimated, and is applicable in all types of situations, is a combat based, reality based, no nonsense hand to hand combat/self defense system. Even though I carry concealed anywhere I can go legally with a weapon, there is always a possibility of not having your weapon with you, or that you can not get to it in time when your world turns upside down. Even if you are never involved in hand to hand combat, a good self defense program should teach you how to think as well. I believe that it keeps you calm, confident of your abilities, and much more aware of the dangers of violent interactions with other people.

Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme! Just kidding. It would be nice to get a free book so my husband won’t complain (as much).

The Country Life is to be preferr’d; for there we see the Works of God; but in Cities little else but the Works of Men: And the one makes a better Subject for our Contemplation than the other.

  69. By Ann Archer, March 7, 2012 @ 1:34 pm

I hope we win this book! The knowledge in it would have been handy when my husband slipped and slid down a mountain face on his behind leaving large gashes in his toosh 2 days hike away from help in the Sierra’s. Or when our daughter developed a large burning rash 1/2 days hike in Mark Twain Nation Forest. The thought of not being able to get someone to an ER when needed scares the heck out of me.
