FIREARMS WEEK: Tips for a budget AR build

lrb1_enl

By J Dobson

I doubt there is a more popular weapon system available today than the modern sporting rifle, or AR. They can be had in many different calibers and configurations, more accessories than you can imagine and they are genuinely fun to shoot. On top of all that, in the 5.56 caliber they are inexpensive to shoot compared to many other calibers.

Another great thing about the AR rifle is that, at

Training Day: 3 Tips to Gain Tactical Advantage during Martial Law

shutterstock_179829791

By Cherie

Chinese General Sun Tzu wrote in “The Art of War” that battles with your opponent are predetermined long before the action begins. Intelligent war tacticians only fight winnable battles, whereas the fool just shows up hoping to win based on naive confidence and arrogance. Victory is only attained by conquering the enemy before the battle begins.

Ad nauseum news coverage of Ebola and ISIS, along with recent currency deals between Russia and China

FIREARMS WEEK: How many magazines?

PMAG, AR-15 magazines, MAPUL magazine

This question is pondered just about as much as “How much ammunition should I store?“. Over the past several years I have changed my mind on this and much of that changing I directly attribute to readers who have disagreed with me. I listened to other peoples opinions and came to the conclusion that the number I had determined was a good one wasn’t.

We are talking about survival and preparedness guns. Guns that are

FIREARMS WEEK: Shot Patterns of Different 12 Gauge Loads

shotgun

Remington 870 Express Tactical

REPOST: One of the big advantages to the shotgun is the ability to use different ammunition depending upon the application. Slugs can reach out and bird shot can cover a wide area at closer ranges. In an effort to gain a bit more knowledge over a few different 12 gauge shells – I decided to do a small test.

Up front – let me go

FIREARMS WEEK: Budget Home Defense and Survival Firearm

mossberg_500_spx_tactical

So many of us are on a tight budget. Every week visits to the grocery store bring back memories of when food costs so much less. Now I can feel the strain on my wallet to get the food my family needs as well as extra to put back. Although gas prices are way down costs on most everything continues to inch up while wages remain stagnant. The point is there are many people out

FIREARMS WEEK: Three years, thousands of rounds, and lots of fun – the S&W M&P15-22 Carbine

S&W

REPOST: Three years ago I bought my Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 and have enjoyed it ever since. In fact -I am planning to buy another. This semi-automatic, magazine fed, AR-clone has served me well. I have found it to be accurate and extremely reliable.

When thinking back to the many times I have shot the M&P15-22 the first thing that comes to mind is accuracy. I have never mounted an optic so the

FIREARMS WEEK: 22LR as a Defensive Round?

M&P2

This post was previously published HERE. It has now been updated to this new version. – – – Rourke

In today’s tight economic conditions – there are many preparedness-minded folks out there looking to their Defense Budget and trying to get money to stretch as far as possible. One must consider what type of scenario the Defensive Budget is being prepared for and considered. Even with that some folks just do not have the money

FIREARMS WEEK: Glock 17 Gen 3 Review

g13-3

by J Dodson

Earlier this year I decided to buy a semi-automatic handgun. The purpose of this pistol would be home defense and SHTF, if it came to that. Considering I hadn’t bought a pistol in 15-20 years, I was excited to see what was being offered.

Early on I determined the cost of ammunition would be a big factor in my purchase. I settled with 9 mm due to

Today at 10:00am I will be having my appointment for trigger point injections in Charlotte, NC. I pray that they work as they did a couple years ago. Last several days have been extremely painful. Feeling pain constantly really zaps your strength and I have not felt like doing nothing.

FIREARMS WEEK: How much ammunition should be stored?

Cci

As much as you can afford.

Period.

- – – Rourke

The above is really how I’d like to end this post. I guess that wouldn’t be very entertaining and for those that seriously want an answer it would be a disservice. Come to think of it my answer would be the same regardless – as much as you can afford.

Over the years my idea of an “ideal” ammo stockpile has changed. The

FIREARMS WEEK: Ammunition availability and prices

ammo-supply

Ammunition availability and prices are as close to “back to normal” as I have seen in a long while – at least here in South Carolina. Local gun shop up the road from me this past weekend had ton’s of inventory of .22LR and no limit. Academy Sports also had quite a bit of off brand 22’s but still on the expensive side(10 cents a round). Even online ammunition retailer Luckygunner.com has a substantial selection

DonQt Mess With The USA

So – the Liberal’s in Congress lead by the Wicked Witch of the West Diane Feinstein have gone on record that it is un-American to torture. I guess we are expected to understand terrorist, have empathy, and treat them fairly. Really? Consider a man that has kidnapped your daughter, your wife, your son, or your husband. Would you sit down and ask them politely where they might be and feed them coffee and crumpets? No

A Burial during a Crisis

grave-digging

By Mike

A couple weeks ago I had the unfortunate task of burying my sister cat (little man). Not because she was physically unable to do but mentally unable. It was about 11pm and very dark where I live. Knowing that we had to put the animal in the ground soon I went outside and proceeded to look for a good resting place for little man. I finally decided to on a spot and began
