“After Armageddon” TV Special

After Armageddon premiered back in January. I missed its intial veiwing but DVR’d it the other night.

I was impressed.

Here’s a quick summary: It is filmed like a documentary and follows the trials of a family from Los Angles who have to deal with the collapse of society due to a world-wide pandemic. The family remains in their home for a period of time. Eventually – it becomes clear that evacuation is necessary as gangs of brigands are going house to house taking what they want from those that cannot defend themselves. This family like most was not prepared at all. During their travels out of the city they are shot at by an armed group blocking a road. Their SUV develops a flat shortly thereafter and thy are on foot.

Much of the rest of the 2 hour docu-drama has the family searching desperately for food, finding a vehicle, having food stolen, and then loosing pretty much everything. During their way they do assist and injured driver – who in turn gives them a ride sometime later to a small town. In this small town it appears mostly normal – except the forced church attendance and executions for thieves.

They vacate the town in search of something more normal. They eventually find an area where the people there are assigned homes. The father cuts himself and cannot find antibiotics as the wound becomes infected.

The family appears to be living a much happier existence – when the father becomes very sick.

The show did a fantastic job of realistically portraying what could happen to the average family if they are not prepared. The show also did a good job of motivating me towards my preparedness goals. The family would have done so much better if they had firearms and knew how to use them.
