A river and nature visit……..
This post may not be related to preparedness like most – but it is related to other important things in life. Nowadays people spend far too much time sitting behind a keyboard, game controller, or television – and not enough time in nature. “Modern” lifestyles tend to be high-stress and filled with plastic and metal – with little time spent in a forest, on a lake, near an ocean, or on a mountain.
I am making an effort in my own life and family to expose my children to nature. There is a local river that is driven over daily by most local folks – but they never really “see” it or experience it. This past weekend I took my family to the river and spent a few hours. My kids really enjoyed it.
Here are a few pictures (click to enlarge) -
We visit this river every so often. The peace….the quiet…….it is just flat out calming. We also have planned trips to the mountains and to the ocean. One of my “Family Goals” this year is to spend a lot more time in Nature.
Many survivalists and preppers enjoy camping, hiking and spending time in Nature – I am no different.
Take care all – Rourke

This is why I like Geocaching. It’s still computer related, but it gets us out to see places we would not normally see. Plus good practice with a GPS. The kids all get involved and problem solve. Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

Oh man, where to start. Driving through the mountains during winter and seeing the gorgeous snowed covered peaks, following a river and stopping just to look at the tiny fish swimming in the shallow areas, walking a trail and maybe catching the occasional glimpse of a furry or scaly critter, putting in the effort to climb a steep slope and being rewarded with the view at the end of it (usually the arid but strangely beautiful desert landscape in my case)…
I really need to find the time (and gas money) to get back out there. Just getting away from civilization for a while is worth it in of itself.
I think it’s good that you’re getting your kids out there while they’re young. My grandfather use to take me and my siblings out to different areas all the time when we were kids/teens. Got to see a lot of different things that way.

Looks like a great place to hang out out! And you are absolutely correct about modern day lifestyles, people don’t “stop to smell the roses” anymore. As I type this I am in the process of selling off the plastic and metal “clutter” that has accumulated over the last few years.
As per the viewing capabilities I am using Mozilla Firefox and have no problems viewing anything. Pictures are centered, text is easily read.

A good book to check out is “I love Dirt.” It is a great little tool in helping to get some ideas for activities for you and the kids to get outside more often.

Looks like a wonderful day. I am glad that I live in the middle of so much beauty here in the Rockies. Sometimes we forget to find the beauty in the things we see everyday. It’s good to get out and have fun with the kids. They will remember those times most of all.
