2012 is almost here – setting goals and objects
I ate at a Chinese food place about a year ago and when I opened my fortune cookie it read – “A goal without a plan is called a wish.”.
True…..very true.
I am a huge planner. I set lots of goals. I use college-ruled notebooks as well as computers to make lists of things I want to accomplish and also the steps that need to be taken to render those listed items marked COMPLETE. Like many people I have a lot going on and between work, kids, preparedness, working out, this blog and other online endeavors – it is tough to stay organized and on course.
My favorite time to plan has arrived – the end of the year. New Years Resolutions are set to be made – planning for 2012.
Talking to friends and coworkers I find many that “go with the flow” and really do no pay much attention to planning for the next year. I find it difficult to live like that and not to set goals and objectives. I may not accomplish everything I set out to, and those goals and objective remain fluid to change and adapt to changing situations. Regardless – I plan to give it my best shot.
I challenge everyone to make goals/objectives AND write down how you will accomplish reaching those goals. Get out that pad of paper and think about what you want to accomplish in 2012 – and write down it down. After recording the title of your goal – write down the steps that it will take to reach that goal. All your goals do not have to be preparedness oriented. Lets look at an example:
Goal – Loose 20 pounds and drop body weight to 185 pounds.
-
Maintain high protein, lower carb diet.
-
Eat 4-5 small meals per day – only consuming enough food to feel satisfied – NOT full.
-
Drink 8 16 ounce bottles of water per day.
-
Increase salad intake with fat free dressing.
-
Continue to go to Crossfit 3-4 times per week at a minimum.
I know myself pretty well and I probably go a little overboard with my planning. I often will make my goal – then create a list of steps to accomplish and reach that goal – but also sometimes make a list for each step. I have been working on my lists this past week. If you would be willing to share some of yours – please share in a comment.
Goals……financial, personal, family, health, preparedness………lots of plans for 2012.

I’m a planner (more of a checklist of things to get done), my wife is a goal-maker. The difference, IMO, is that goals are pie-in-the-sky ideas and plans are something to get done.
